Any Roleplayers Around Here?
I'm curious if there's anyone who has any interest in getting this forum back running. Personally, I don't think it would be too difficult to get back running as long as we all worked together. If I can find some people who are interested, I would like to bounce some ideas on how we can get this place back up and running.

Well first of all, are you guys:
- Interested in taking part in a 'Controlled' RPG(Stat based RPGs in which the Game Master gives you a situation that is up to you to make a decision, like DnD for example)
- Hosting a Controlled RPG
- Hosting an RPG and joining in other's RPGs
- Being involved in a 'Free Play' RPG(Where the roleplayers have freedom to decide how the events of a story are told and how they occur. Take the Gunjin Fights for example, the two fighters have control over the battle, environment, and what happens)
- All of the above.
Next: What kind of rpg settings do you like?(The categories are pretty broad and vague, specify your preference more clearly if needed)
- Medieval/fantasy/magic
- Present/realistic
- Futuristci/sci-fi/guns
Personally, I'm for anything whether it be controlled, free-play, and am not entirely concerned about what kind of theme the rpg is.
The only thing I dislike are rpgs directly based off a movie or a game (such as a Sonic RPG, Mario RPG, etc.) that involve the characters and settings. I either will dislike the series in general, I do not know the series, or I like the series but would not prefer to play an RPG because it conflicts with the series too much or deviates from the series too much.
I'm cool with people using a game or movie that inspires them to create their own RPG with their own characters and settings though. For example, if someone was a huge fan of Resident Evil but made their own zombie invasion game I would join it, as long as it was not based off the Resident Evil series.
Anyway, to put it short: I'm for any type of RPG(controlled, free play, past, present, or futuristic) as long as it isn't based off an existing game or movie.
Once we find out what everyone wants to do, we can create RPGs based on what people like instead of making RPGs and hoping people will be interested in them.

I'll play / run whatever if I have to. I don't have much experience with Free Play however, but whatever.
As for the setting, Just about anything will do. I'm going to say no to realistic stuff though; I think I'd find it a bit boring. And adding onto that, I'd like random or weird stuff. Although really, its more like I'd prefer things that break away from the norm.
Yeah, games based around a series generally aren't that interesting to play in, especially if every character is someone from those games. I don't think the setting being the same hurts too much though; I can remember a few games that had a setting in some game worlds, but it only had a few characters from the game and almost none of the plot, so they were kind of unique and fun.
And dux, how many numbers are too many? Cause the usual here is around 7 sets of numbers for a character. (HP, MP, Attack, Defense, Magic Attack, Magic Defense, Speed)
Also, controlled RPGs don't technically need to have any statistics associated with them; they just usually do. I do it because its simpler to understand (Attack - Defense = Damage Dealt) and because otherwise every attack I'd need to determine damage based on what I felt would be a good amount of damage to do... which really doesn't feel all that "controlled" to me.

I'm planning on hosting a Post Apocalyptic Sci-Fi D&D game, but it's still in the works and I've got another big project, so I probably won't have it up by the end of the year.
I really want it to have a great plot, and not fail like the others (my god those were terrible), so I want everything out of the way when I start it.
However, if it didn't take up too much of my time, I'd be up for a D&D-esque game, preferably Medieval, possibly Sci-Fi.
Don't like Freeplay, wouldn't participate, but don't count my vote too heavily, I'm pretty busy lately.

Meh, I just covered a few generic things as far as settings go. Not all medieval games are fantasy of course, but medieval and magic is a popular combination so I just threw it in.dux_is_me wrote:Well, where would a Mario-like setting go? Anachronistic medieval-ish fantasy?
I guess I could take part in a "controlled" game as long as there weren't that many numbers to crunch.
If you're talking about a Mario RPG, I personally think of a more modern setting, but Mario doesn't really take place on Earth (I don't get that feeling at least). Instead it generally takes place in The Mushroom Kingdom.
If you are thinking of creating a Mario RPG I probably wouldn't mind it, despite my previous post arguing about RPGs based off games. The Mario series varies a lot between games so I can easily see an RPG based on Mario be more successful than other games out there.

I don't have much experience in DnD I would join your Sci-Fi one SK. I remember a few summers ago you made one, which was continued by TheEvilDM. Both of you guys did good seeing as it brought attention and activity to the forum, and I was enjoying roleplaying my character. I wish those other DnD players were interested in other player made RPGs besides DnD. :(

Well it sounds like free play is a long stretch, which is fine with me really. For as much as I like them, I am actually lagging behind in my Gunjin Battles with Speed and KB (Which I do promise to finish!!!). I feel bad that I'm a retard for not continuing them for I am both very interested in them, but once I can get a few things out of the way in real life I will continue them, anyway.
The other problem with free plays is they're very difficult to begin. It's often difficult to get all of the characters directly involved in the plot without it seeming convincing. However, once they get past that initial obstacle, they generally are a lot easier later on.
---
Overall, it sounds like free-play is the best way to go. I'm curious about possibly creating a turn-based game where you have an army and fight other armies. In the past I've had plans for a futuristic one between three human armies, fire people, ice people, and shadow people with quite a bit of information stored in a Word document.
However recently I've began considering a medieval one as well, though I do not have any plans written down for one.
Would anyone be interested in a war-like RPG? If so, would you prefer the futuristic or medieval one?

That looks interesting; if it restarts I might give a shot too. Also, even though its probably rude of me to ask, I'd be willing to make stuff for that game if I could.
...so, as for here, does anyone have an idea on what kind of game we should try and start? Like... are there any RPGs in the past you liked and would want to play again or anything else among those lines?

I guess I'll try and get an RPG up as well. I'd like to know though, which of these would everyone be most interested in? (Setting would be 'traditional' - Swords and spells and such for these)
Battleclub / Guilds- Not much to say; create a character and battle with them;probably the simplest one for me and I usually end up including exploring/quests and all that stuff in it too. Pretty much the entire thing would be based on stats.
Adventure / Labyrinth - Pretty much void of stats and based around exploration. The only real stats would be your health and whatever items/abilities you pick up along the way.
War / Strategy - ...I'd honestly rather not do this; since it could end up being a pain to do depending on how it was done, but I'll give it a try if I have to. There are also a lot of ways in which it could be done so if you say you want this give me a bit of a hint as to how. (control everything/control smaller parts; Stats/no stats; whether you have an active role in the battles/just sit back and tell people to do stuff)
??? - Recommend something; anything... except Freeplay RPGs as I'm bad at making stories/plot and thats really the main thing they need to start off.

I'm for a battleclub personally. I like hard-core stats and adventuring.
I'll try making medieval war/strategy one I think. I have a decent idea on combat that isn't painful, however one of the flaws is currently it results in a lengthy battle. However, I'm getting some important business done this week so I won't have it up until 1-2 weeks from now.
