^Dude, what about 'Dune'? I mean, sure, the book was pretty good, but it wasn't until they made the plot totally incomprehensible and threw Sting into the mix that it truly began to shine.

I thought the Sci-fi Dune and Children of Dune mini-series were pretty good.

Stuff may get left out in book-to-movie transitions, but does the movie have to match the book perfectly? What's wrong with having a movie just be generally based off of the book instead of making sure to include every painstaking detail?

3 hour movie or no movie at all. It's really going to be hard to capture the emotional depth of the book in an 80-minute special effect monster.

The Ender trilogy is perfect for movie studios. A big-budget standalone first flick, and if that's successful, a two-parter sequel.
