I blame Sonic Underground for all the Sonic-OC's, even though Archie is clearly the worst of it.

I don't think anyone cared about Underground. It's more likely Satam+Archie+SA2 that caused the chaos known as the Sonic fanbase.

AoStH was pretty standard wacky-hijinks animation, albeit occasionally going off-model.
SatAM was pretty standard dark-adventure animation.
Underground was more or less forgettable.
But then the OVA pilot movie was "MY HAT'S ON FIRE! HELP!"

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
