With all of its faults, Glee does inspire young people to join choirs. I'm a music education major and have seen that it has worked (at least a little). At the same time, if that is its overriding purpose, then why are they including scenes that aren't appropriate for children? Mentioning scissoring is all fine and dandy for a show aimed at adults, but what is glee's main audience?
Also, Slash should be able to deny someone to arrange their songs without being attacked. That's just stupid.
I don't know... I'm a fan of the show (I like the drama :p ), but Ryan Murphy just sounds like an stupidface.

I might completely miss the point on this but there just something that buggers me here, mostly about the scenes that aren't appropriate for childrens.Tablecloth Girl wrote:With all of its faults, Glee does inspire young people to join choirs. Do you mean that Rock n roll, the force that in it's cleanest form is kids playing louder and faster than their parents isn't suitable for children?
I have small cousins and nephews around the ages 1 year to 6 year and i don't turn the music down if the happend to arrive in the middle of, let's say one of those death metal grindcore songs i sometimes listens to, not because i don't hear them come in it's because i try to tell them that this is good stuff, keep away from anything that requiers you to have your pants down to you knees.

^No. Some scenes are blatantly and overtly-sexual. Actresses who are portraying young high school girls are talking about scissoring with each other, and other references to drugs and such. The problem is, a lot of the show is actually advertised to an even younger demographic than high schoolers, and that content might not be appropriate.
Glee's biggest problem is that it doesn't know what the hell it is. It tries to say it 'promotes music in kids of all ages', but that's not at all congruent with some of the actual content shown. Plus, the writers have no concept of continuity.

This might be news to you, but teens ****! Teens take drugs. Some teens are even gay! I'm not sure what the problem is here.ZeldaGirl wrote:^No. Some scenes are blatantly and overtly-sexual. My problem with the show is that it only seems to have one setting from what I've seen, and that is "****ing twee"
Why is it drug addicts and computer afficionados are both called users?

Elementary school kids watch this show. As in, kids way younger than the intended demographic. Of course teens engage in those behaviors. The problem is, the show promotes itself as a musical that is engaging for kids of all ages, when clearly, it's meant for an older audience. And that's a real problem - essentially, parents and children see the bright, bubbly promos of people singing and having fun, and then actually watch the show, and there are girls talking about scissoring. It's misleading. The problem is, a lot of the show is actually advertised to an even younger demographic than high schoolers, and that content might not be appropriate.

Haha: Murphy backpedals on Kings of Leon after being berated by Grohl
And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
Translation: "Somebody with a better reputation than me told me off in a public forum for my douchery, so now to save face I'm pretending I didn't say the stuff I said in the first place."'Glee' Creator Apologizes For Kings of Leon Feud
Ryan Murphy insists that he respects artists who won't license their music to 'Glee'
By Matthew Perpetua

Glee creator Ryan Murphy has apologized for attacking the Kings of Leon for declining to license their song "Use Somebody" for an episode of the popular television series. Back in January, the producer called the band "self-centered *******s" and suggested that they were not supportive of arts education.
"I didn't speak with as much clarity as I would have liked," Murphy told the Hollywood Reporter on Friday. "Who am I to say '**** you?' That's not what I meant. I completely understand when artists don't want a show or another artist to interpret their songs. In fact, I respect it. It's their personal work and I'd feel the same way. We get turned down all the time and I've don't fight it or even go back after a rejection."
Murphy seemed especially shaken by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl's recent comments in support of Kings of Leon in this situation. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Grohl said "**** that guy for thinking anybody and everybody should want to do Glee." Murphy, a Foo Fighters fan, countered that claim by insisting "I've never felt that if you don't give Glee your music, there's something diabolical about you."
