It depends.
If your kid has been voilent with people before and has an interest and weapons, then you keep them far away from GTA3.

Me, for example though, I just rented it.
Quite a great game, you can do whatever the crap you please, especially if you have the tank cheat, it's so fun wrecking havoc on the city.
My mom would come in "Is that Grand Theft Auto 3? That horrible nasty bloody game with hookers and mob members?" I would just be like "No, it's Driver 2.".
She'd see a car driving around on the screen and be like "Oh Ok".
Dishonest, but who gives a ****, the game's worth lieing. ;)

It's true that parents have every right to keep that game from you, as do mine to keep it from me, but frankly, I don't see how it's gonna dramatically change my life. I got GTA3 when I was 13 and I have Vice City now, and, miraculously, I haven't gone on a shooting spree yet. Well, at least that's what some people think you would do, although the vast majority don't. But I really don't think that I'm an immoral person or anything like that. Well, most people my age are immoral and I'm pretty much the same, but besides that I'm not any worse than people who don't play the game.

Violent video games are blamed for the death of many people, but I don't think they're what we should blame them on. Just like that Bowling for Columbine movie said, people in the whole world play violent games, and they don't have any of this "I played this game and it traumatized me and told me to kill people" crap. The U.S. is a pretty screwed up country in its number of death by guns. There's about 10,000 more murders there than here. I just don't know what it is with some people there.

Oh, and being overprotected doesn't necessarily make you a sissy. Some overprotected people are defiant of their parents, and anyway once you move out of your house you can pretty much do whatever the hell you want, so the whole "sissy " mentality goes away when you meet others.

My mom swears AT LEAST once a week. And that's in front of me. I don't know how many times she swears when she's alone.

I personally beleive that if you ground your kids too much, it damages them.
Because once they get out of the house, they're bombarded by all the things that they were sheltered from, and they want to do it all.

That's what happened to James Hetfeild.
Who knows, if it weren't for James' parents, Metallica could've just as well ended up a gospel band.

I don't think the violence is the major issue with it. From what I've seen, GTA is just a scapegoat for the violent media thing; it doesn't look like it's any more violent than any other shooter out there. I'd be more concerned with the sexual content and language, and that doesn't even have anything to do with maturity level - it's just inappropiate for anyone. It's kind of funny when you think about it; people blame violent games for real life violence, but you practically never hear someone say "GTA causes teen pregnancies, because it has hookers and encourages casual sex". I really don't see how one is any more logical than the other.

I would let my children play GTA.
But by the time I have children, the game will be so outdated, it won't matter.
Granted, they would have to be at least 13 or 14 first.

Congratulations.
You just proved that you don't have the maturity level to own GTA3. Or any of them for that matter.

I don't hate GTA3 under any shape or form of the imagination, it's one of my favorite games.
But I would still prefer my kid be at least 14-15 before playing it.

It's one of the few games that ESRB has given a Mature 17+ rating that deserves it.

That's because you can't think of one.

"You suck" isn't a kiddy insult. It's a CLASSIC insult. There's a difference. Quit whining. You're only sore because your parents are actually doing their jobs by not wanting you to play that game. I wouldn't let my kid play that game until they were 16-18. Like anyone SMART would.

Whining about not having GTA is not going to help you at all. Quit being a baby about it.
