Ground Wars = Final Fantasy VI. Locke and the moogles protect Terra against the monsters at the beginning of the game, and they're in a mine... so I'm thinking that could be considered an underground war...

Correct, but wrong reasons. FF3 has an evil empire, a heroic band of rebels, a flying ship called the Falcon...almost like Star Wars, but on the ground...
