I've been reading the newspaper for many years now, and I still remember when she passed away, since in my last post I mentioned she died 12 days before my 12th birthday. Okay, the first few days after her death, she made the front page of my town's newspaper and I remember reading that when she was 100 in 1975, she was STILL biking her bike. That's all I remember, though. Oh my gosh, she was 110 when I was born in 1985! Scary stuff.

That about sums it up. Just had some meat-stuffed ravioli with sage sauce yesterday. Damn that's good. Meals like those make me proud to be Italian .

It's not confined to Italian food though. It also involves other foods like Spanish food (which is just as awesome as Italian food), and Greek food too, and other places around the Mediterranean, including Egypt. Also wine is good, believe it or not. It helps the circulation. But you have to drink wine with the meal, you can't just drink it for the hell of it. That's when it starts to damage you.

Mass-produced pizzas with gallons of oil and unhealthy crap all over it don't count. It's gotta be the good ****. And believe me, Domino's and Pizza Hut don't even begin to compare to the type of food that you get in a homemade family-run restaurant in non-touristic parts in Italy. I know cause I've been there.

My great-grandmother is Italian and she's living in Italy right now. She's 92 years old and still alive. However, she's blind in one eye and deaf in one ear, and her skin is really delicate. Like if she hits her hand on a wall or something, it will start bleeding very easily. Even so, a few months ago she had a stroke and at age 92 she managed to survive a stroke. Not many people can do that.
