If they're doing that then hopefully the end will have a post-credits scene leading into a SSB film.

Think we're gonna have to agree to disagree, homey. I loved watching Peach knuckle up and grab a battle-axe. Personally, I felt like that was, like, a million percent in line with her character from SMBSS, and the old Nintendo Power comics. I can't claim I know how she's portrayed in the newest games (I don't have a Switch), but she was one of my favourites in 'Brawl'------loaded with flippin rough tough stuff, front to back and clear through the middle. Anyone who can send Ganondorf away off to the shadow realm with a frying pan is okay by me.I REALLY HATE POKEMON! wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 8:31 amI was afraid they'd do something like this. Peach is an entirely different character now. I guess her not being a badass was "problematic" or whatever. Cringe.

I like it when they break the mold and let Peach join in the action. She's the only character I'll play SMB2 with, she never leaves my team in SMRPG, and Super Princess Peach is one of the best 2D Mario platformers.Booyakasha wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 10:00 amThink we're gonna have to agree to disagree, homey. But there's a noticeable difference in tone they're shooting though. Mario is also a bit more of a bumbling idiot type than he should be too. I just think their direction is offputting in some ways.
I don't think it'll ruin the movie--it could have been a LOT worse--I just liked what I saw in the first trailer more.

^That's cool, man.
I think the movie looks like a bag of laughs, same as I kind of thought the first Sonic flick was (haven't seen that second one yet---------Riv tells me it's even better than the first), but I completely understand if other people are turned off by an adaptation. That's the nature of the beast. Like, maybe if I were a hardcore Mortal Kombat fan, I'd hate them goofball live-action flicks from the nineties. Or maybe I'd really love the Peter Jackson LotR movies if I'd been dropped on my head repeatedly as a child. (Ahahaa. Shots fired.)
(EDIT: I seriously need to finish SMRPG someday. I'm not big on Japanese RPGs most of the time, but I like SMRPG enough to make an exception. I probably have my old save file from high school, but I'd probably be best off starting from scratch.)
(EDIT2:...I mean, not to repeat what's probably been said a whole bunch already, but I still can't hardly believe that's Jack Black. I don't know if they applied some filter to his voice, or if that's all just talent, but seriously---------kudos to him for vanishing into the role.)

Sonic 2 is worth watching, but Sonic 1 is better (reverse of the games, interestingly). The Mortal Kombat movies are hard to hate, but maybe that's my bias for cheesy 90's video game adaptations shining through, even the legendarily bad Mario movie is fun to me.Booyakasha wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 7:27 pm^That's cool, man.

LotR though, I think the last one is a bit shaky, but otherwise really good. Sure puts the Amazon series to shame at any rate lol.
Mario RPG is just amazing, man. Once you get Bowser on your team it's hard to put down. Speaking of Bowser, yeah, Black's voice is almost unrecognizable, in a good way (gratefully; I think he sounds annoying 99% of the time).

It looks like the way they're going with the plot is that Bowser is an oncoming conqueror whose approach has made a lot of noise, so Peach isn't being taken by surprise like she usually is in the games; she's had time to prepare. Mario & Luigi, on the other hand, have only just arrived in this world for the first time & genuinely have no idea what's going on.I REALLY HATE POKEMON! wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 6:37 pmI like it when they break the mold and let Peach join in the action. This is not a Mario movie at all. It is just another "Tax" like "Disney+", "Car insurance", "food", or even somebody in jail/parenthood/and or deceased.

Think about original-ism.
The deal with films is that most of them are written in a language that is even lesser then a children's books. You watch, read, etc enough about them you will come to realize a formula is being used, remade, or rewritten in a specific manor.
Bowser v. Linux MSX Penguins.
Toad making lame and obvious side jokes
The princess and Mario clearly having cartoon mold for heads, and eyes, and being mistaken for the family from "Rick and Morty".
It is like the invention of the casual gamer ( aka Hillary no like videogames aka V-tech, aka Nintendo Wii system being created with that stance in mind 2008 ), which resulted in a dozens of Android clones, and some how flash is not on Android or IOS devices ( even if flash could run on a 100-200Mhz machine. ). I mean omgsh "batteries not included" was a better film by default.
Take "Wreck it Ralph" ( yes we go back into that garbage ). Pure pay-day, tax, for a bunch of lame comedians so lame their images could not be fully shown. One of them played an anime-esquire coach on "glee" and the other one who had mostly pee-jokes, and played a hipp-dippy girl on Star-Trek Voyager.
That is what this is about. It is a tax. Put this in your head. If this was a game. Think about how silly it would be. I mean okay Mario had the lame Bunnies from Rayman already cross-over mini-games, and apparently the Koopa-Kids, Mario 3 themes, and the Leafs along with Kamek is a
horse that can not run anymore. ( because Nintendo does not actually use it correctly ).
Jokes that are not funny because they are installed for the sake of saying "I did not waste my money I burnt my life on"
The original "Mario Bros" live-aciton movie was original. You know why they can not do it again? Because it would have to be sequel.
I mean why not a dream-scape, why not just find some noob actors and do the whole thing all in a dream and call it "Super Mario Brothers 2"
Nope.
We just made a lame story with no value. [removed]

The generic look they gave Mario and Peach looks more like that tired old Pixar/DreamWorks look every character has in those films than Rick & Morty.
For some reason Luigi didn't seem as effected by the art style shift as Mario, while Peach seems to have got it the worst.
It was okay, I liked it but I think they shouldn't have relegated actual video game characters to cameos. Focusing on fake video game characters and locations was a letdown and one of its bigger flaws imo.CaptHayfever wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 12:51 amI like Wreck-It Ralph.

LIke I mentioned via "Rick and Morty" or "Back to the Future" they are using generic cartooning language / Visual communications. Like rules you could see in any childrens books or even most comics or anything in the western world.I REALLY HATE POKEMON! wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 1:54 am

1. Older people have smaller eyes because their bodies grow via time and age. Even if this could be argued due to health.
2. Peach head is like Jerries wife. ...It is longer to dictate her age rather then being youthful or beauty. Same with Toad and other characters.
3. Luigi might unaffected because he is already under that transformation from the games. The reason why we have tall Luigi.
4. Even Bowser is affected. You have to take some shots of him from the Mario RPG years and Mario 64 3d artwork, including his later appearance in full 3d. He has a more
A. Rounder
B. Bigger eyes
C. More proportional
looks.
They are all basically western cartoons. Even the 1990's "Super Mario Brothers: Super Show" had more "Anime" eastern influence. Which you could see all over the show itself.
.................................................
They basically did what "New Animaniacs" and "New Ghost Busters" and "New Velma" ( not so much Bakster from TMNT ) did to there series.
They criminally $#@#@$@$ it up !!! the horror, the horror....
Nobody will notice or care because the average selfish Religious nut-jobber who is going to the film will be like " It is a kiddie film" just like when we all saw the original "Super Mario Bros" Movie with Mick Jagger. Nobody cares. Just be like "oh he likes Mario lets see the movie.
......................................................
As I mentioned before I went to college and rand into this disabled guy. I mean omgsh claims he knows anything about Mario but only knows the Wii games transformation ( which in my opinion does not count ).
I give up and when the News reads "Mario Move hits big in box office" they are most likely reading global amounts of nutjobs burning their money.

The animation on the Super Show & SMB 3 was done in Korea, & the animation on the SMW cartoon in China; that's why it seemed anime-ish.
Mick Jagger was not in the original Mario movie.

Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie - Official Teaser Trailer (2023) Chris Pratt, Jack Black :: (Second Trailer 29 Nov)
I think I mentioned it in another thread but my earlier concerns about Mario & Peach were overblown. Mario was a bit too helpless in the beginning, I get why they did it but it makes his swift growth less believable. He didn't stay a bumbling moron for long at least, but he was a tad whiny throughout. I'm just glad he became a competent hero and saved the day, which I wasn't sure modern Hollywood would allow. They nitpick a bit more, they leaned a little too heavily into making him comedic, just a bit, but that's sort of just the whole movie favoring the comedy elements to the adventure aspect.
Luigi didn't get much screentime but I guess they did good with him, striking a balance between his cowardice and heroism, given what time he had. I think it's tough to judge without seeing him in a more active role but he could be the most faithful to his game counterpart.
For Peach, I still think they amped her abilities up too much and nudged her character a bit too close to Xena, but it didn't really detract from much in the grand scheme of things. What really helped is she still had a nice, gentle character, she was likeable, pleasant. I was expecting her to talk down to Mario and emasculate him as so often is the case these days when trying to depict "strong" female characters, but she was supportive, kind, and still feminine instead of essentially being written male.
I was impressed with Bowser at first, but thinking back on the film, he was a less imposing and frightening than he could have been. I think the comedic tone of the film was just a tad thick, undercutting the presence he could have had. He was too focused on Peach personally too, in the games he does haveca desire to marry her, but it's more secondary to his domination. I think they skewed his motivations a little too much.
DK was great, loved him. It's a little tough to actually judge this one though, I want to complain that they didn't keep him faithful enough to the game canon just like the others, I mean...what choice did they have? Any dialogue he ever has is in supplementary material like instruction booklets, and there's not a lot to work with. I guess they extrapolated as best they could and just invented character elements for him to fill in the gaps. It worked but something nags at me, it just doesn't feel like Donkey Kong. More nitpicks, I guess.
Oh, I forgot about Toad. I don't know what to say, like DK there's really not much to work with, but the direction they took him in felt...random? He's fine but I just don't think they were prudent enough in keeping him feeling like Toad, honestly. But he's so secondary I suppose it doesn't matter TOO much...
This does make me concerned for Yoshi in the inevitable sequel though, like Toad and DK, I expect him to just be some new character in Yoshi's body. I don't really like that and hope they dial things back in Mario 2. But I should reiterate the film was fantastic, like a 9.5/10, especially for a modern film, a video game adaptation no less.
