On top of which he sings most of his dialogue. I don't think you'd care for it, IRHP.
Get 'Big Man Plans' or 'The Blade Itself' instead. Maybe 'Looshkin: The Adventures of the Maddest Cat in the World'. You'll be happier. You'll have a big smile on. Think of it.

Singing. Man, can we just take a moment to thank Peter Jackson for isolating the singing within the trilogy to just the bar scenes, where they belong? What a bullet we dodged there.

Here's another nope to Peter Jackson's take-------his versions of the songs stink.
He had a chance to outdo the animated Hobbit flick, and yet his equivalent to 'Far Over the Misty Mountains' sounds like wank. The cadence is off. The makers of the cartoon contracted "over" to "o'er", thereby making the phrase iambic. It sounds so much better. It's such an obvious move.

Hell yeah. Let's talk about the best Tolkien adaptation.

^^&^Of course. It has the gorgeous animation, the beautiful music and all. And, I mean, this is purely a matter of taste, but I like its version of Gollum better. Weird and froggy. Brother Theodore's odd off-putting delivery. It was kind of perfect.
[EDIT] I have a weakness for archaic language and poesy, and so 'Far O'er the Misty Mountains' hits me right in my wheelhouse. I love things like 'the king is come unto his hall', and referring to Smaug as 'the worm of dread'. It's like catnip to me.

Yeahhh... but that art is not good. At all. Kind of terrible and unbearable.

did you miss the part where galadriel considered saying "no" to the ring after not even touching it and being in its presence for all of 4 seconds "passing the test"? Frodo WORE and CARRIED that **** for months, with it pulling at his psyche nonstop the entire time. The point of that Galadriel scene was if she so much as allowed herself to touch it it the world would probably be **** over.Booyakasha wrote: ↑Sun Dec 15, 2019 7:33 pmOh, do come off it. Gandalf, Elrond and Galadriel all tell the Ring to go piss off. How hard can it possibly be.
Frodo doesn't have an excuse. If the Dark Side can't corrupt Luke, if Potter cain't corrupt George Bailey, then Frodo doesn't have an excuse.

That's fair. I haven't read or watched LotR in over a decade------------I can accept that I'm probably oversimplifying and misremembering things. Mostly out of stupidity, but at least a little for comedic effect.

Still would have been a better villain than Sauron. I like a cheerfully malicious villain. Just being a ratbag and relishing it. You can't sing 'Fifteen Birds' if you're all tortured and conflicted.

...man. I really like 'It's a Wonderful Life'.
George Bailey is a great protagonist because he's good in spite of himself. It galls him---------the sacrifices he makes burn him alive. He's seething with resentment, man. He wanted to see the world, and it's clear that he'll never get a mile out of Bedford Falls. He's so frustrated. It's relatable as heck.

Re: OLD MAN YELLS AT CLOUD: where we complain about popular things in media we don't like to feel better about ourselves
So I've been building Lego sets, and I'll tell you what-----------I am furious that I have to resort to bootleggers if I want to build a new Lego pirate ship. Lego quit on actual imaginative products in favour of licenses years ago, and it's disgusting. I don't want a Batmobile-------I want Boo's Pirate Flagship, The Vehicle Upon Which Boo Has Fun G-Rated Pirate Adventures. Digging up treasure and clobbering eviller pirates and looking at things through a telescope and having drinks with comely hula girls and fighting sea monsters and yelling 'Arr!' and 'Yo ho ho!' and 'I am a pirate!' and stuff.
...tall ships are inherently inspiring. They drive the imagination. The sight of masts and bowsprits swaying on the tide makes boys want to go out and beat Captain Hook and plant flags and punch Bluto and conquer Mars and hunt Moby-Dick and become eagle scouts. I know whereof I speak, goshdarn it.

I don't think drinking is G-rated, Boo. You're looking at at least a hard PG, probably.

Oh yeah, I mean, you might have been able to slip in a mild curse word or vague sexually suggestive theme, even, though probably not both.
Speaking of ratings leniency, Ren & Stumpy still surprises me. I don't know how they got away with that on Nickelodeon. That's definitely what comes to mind on the topic.

Re: OLD MAN YELLS AT CLOUD: where we complain about popular things in media we don't like to feel better about ourselves
I'm about to post the most 'old man yells at cloud' take I've posted in a really long time, but I honestly can't watch AGDQ/SGDQ anymore. I think the event is wonderful, I think the charities they donate to are extremely important, I think the publicity for speedrunning has been incredible. But now that I've started following individual speedrunners, and I intentionally seek out runners who are going for world records or taking the attempts really seriously (and also prefer channels with little/no commentary so I can actually hear the game)... I just tried tuning into AGDQ because I love Skyward Sword, and I honestly couldn't watch it. You can't hear the game at all over meme donations and constant commentary, the energy is just very constantly MUST BE ENTERTAINMENT 24-7 and it's kind of exhausting.
I know that AGDQ/SGDQ is formatted the way it is to maximize profits for charity, and I have nothing against that. I have AGDQ/SGDQ to thank for my investment in speedrunning in the first place. Reading meme donations aloud is what encourages people to donate more to have theirs read, which means more money to a good cause. Most people enjoy commentary to understand what's happening. The purpose of AGDQ/SGDQ is entertainment. I begrudge none of this.
But I don't find it enjoyable to watch anymore. I'd rather watch someone resetting 400 times going for a pb/wr and only commenting here and there, largely focusing on the game. Now that I've become invested in speedrunning myself, that is what I find appealing about it. I want to watch someone try to be the absolute best that they can.
Anyway I'm just complaining because I don't enjoy GDQ's anymore, none of it is an issue really but I just don't really look forward to these events anymore, and I felt the need to yell about it on the internet because what else am I supposed to do with a hashtag unpopular opinion? Also feeling a bit sad that I don't enjoy something that I used to really look forward to. I think it would be fun to attend one and meet people (although it's more likely I'd do that at RPGLB), but as far as watching...? meh.
That said, go donate to GDQ, let a runner meet their goal and have their chance to shine and give money to charity.
