A Christmas story and Jingle All the Way are right in the center between bad and good.

The big question:
Is the first Harry Potter considered a Christmas movie? It was first released a month before Christmas and there are scenes during which they celebrate the holiday. This seems to be a trademark in most of the movies. What do you think? I think that it certainly has a holiday feel.

A Charlie Brown Christmas- I don't know why I hate this movie so much. It's just a primal dislike of that entire cartoon from top to bottom. Probably because it was force fed to my eyeballs every Christmas for ten years.

^Sorcerer's Stone is only a Christmas movie if it's also a Christmas book. It's neither. It takes place over the entirety of the school year, & in fact very little of the action happens at Christmastime.

^ Polar Express really seems weird to me for some reason, maybe it's the relatively early CGI Tom Hanks or something, but I have avoided it and will continue to do so.

Blackadder's Christmas Carol is one of my all-time faves. One of these years I'll watch Holiday Inn. Ooh! I saw Gremlins for the first time this year. Pretty rad.

I really only out-and-out hate the overcommercialized TARGET FAMILY SPECIAL movies. Laaame.

Also - has anyone ever watched the 1959 Santa Claus movie? It was produced in Mexico and is sometimes referred to as "The Mexican Santa Clause movie" or "Santa Claus vs the Devil" - because it literally is about Santa Claus versus Satan. Also, Merlin the Wizard is involved. For some reason. It's awful but also one of my favorites in the sense that it's so bizarre that it's one of those movies to watch drunk with friends who love watching bad, obscure movies.

That movie got featured on SF MST3K back when I was in high school, and then RiffTrax took a crack at the whole unedited movie a couple years back.

I really like it. I mean, it's ridiculously stupid, but charming. Santa is weird and scary, yet also incredibly kind at times. It's a strange shake-up of Santa Claus lore. One wonders why Santa is fighting the Devil. I mean, I know Santa is a little involved in the whole good v. evil thing, but, like, once Shaitan comes into the picture, you really oughtta put in a call to the Most High. I guess He must be busy around Christmastime. Still, though. Santa knows Merlin. Are there any other mythological figures he could call upon? What's Odin up to? Maybe see if Anubis is anywhere nearby, ready for a scrap? I bet old Hercules would help Santy out, just for the funzies of it. C'mon.
