I want to move somewhere, but I can't, because I'm disabled and can't drive.
My sister gets to go to places like California and New York, but I'm stuck living with my parents.
I also don't have a lot of choices for a job, because if I get paid too much, I'll lose my disability.
I want to do stuff, but I can't. I don't know what to do.
Feel helpless.

Re: Feel helpless.
Not really.
I feel like a burden, just sitting in front of the computer all day. My mom says I'm helpful because I do chores around the house, but I don't really see that as being helpful. I see it as just doing what needs to be done.

Re: Feel helpless.
Even if it is just stuff that needs to be done, I think your parents really do appreciate all the help they can get, especially as they get older.
I believe your best bet would be to work out a plan with your parents to find a small job nearby. I think being able to work a job will at least alleviate your feeling of being a burden.

Re: Feel helpless.
I'm sorry that you're feeling like this! Sometimes taking control of your life can be difficult with the number of obstacles that each and every one of us has to overcome. I don't know what your disability is but maybe light exercises from a chair can be a start. Just getting your blood going can be enough to boost your mood. Talking to the people you live with every day can be such a liberating feeling also, especially if its something important to you and causing you real anguish. In my experience people who feel as though they are a burden need to first unburden themselves onto others. That's one way they are able to take the first steps to healing the internal damage they're experiencing. I hope you can tell your family how you are feeling. I believe it will make your situation much easier to deal with and help you accomplish the goals you set for yourself! Stay healthy, Stay positive. You can do it.

Re: Feel helpless.
Another thing that may help would be to look at not only your limitations but also your strengths. You mentioned that you help out around the house? Even though it doesn't seem like much to you, it is a strength! Looking at the things you CAN do is a great start to goal setting. Best of luck.
