1. Police Story: A-, Jackie's second best to Legend of the Drunken Master. Memorable final fight. Top notch score.
2. Police Story 2: B+, good follow up, albeit one dumb plot twist
3. Crime Story: B, pretty good, just some plotholes and general questions like "Why didn't the bad guy do X, Y, or Z?"
4. Dragon Fist: C+, meh
5. Magnificent Bodyguards: D, haha okay, this started out cool but then the low budget production really began to show as I noticed strings holding up props and people left and right. They also shamelessly ripped John Williams' score to Star Wars. Yes. Imagine that for a moment - kung fu masters fighting to the tune of the Rebel Alliance. The plot had something going but the twist at the end was utterly stupid and didn't make ANY sense. ANY sense.
6. The Protector: B-, a solid mediocre martial arts/cop film. Some bad guys were thrown in who had nothing to do with the main story.
7. Rumble in the Bronx: B, ending was too abrupt, some character relationships were also abrupt. Also SO MUCH BASS. WHAT THE ****? LOWER THE BASS FOR GOD'S SAKE.
8. The Founder: A-, great flick about unveiling Ray Kroc's lies and deception about creating McDonald's.
9. The Fisher King: A, fantastic!
10. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty: B+, some usual tropes
11. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice: D+, second time watching it. I think we all know what's wrong with it
12. Suicide Squad: C, also second time, basically a step up from Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice
13. Inferno: C+, blah blah blah Dan Brown blah blah
14. Spirited Away: A-, never saw it before
15. Zardoz: Not applicable, this movie is special. There is no way to rate this movie, IMO. It's practically performance art. I really don't know how to rate it. Sure it's a ****ing weird-ass movie but is it "bad"? I really don't know. I just. . .I just don't know.
16. La La Land (times 2!): A, great musical. Let's be honest; the plot wasn't really that important. It was all about the style.
17. Dr. Strange, B+: Second time seeing it. Liked it more this time. Still feels a bit tropey because it's late in the game to introduce a new hero in the Marvel universe. But otherwise one of the top Marvel movies IMO.
18. Logan: A+, holy crap that was epic! This might sound crazy but I'm hoping this shows up on the Oscars. It's a long shot because the Oscar people are grade A snobby A-holes who never let in anything remotely fantasy/sci-fi, except for the original Star Wars, Return of the King and Arrival. But IMO, it's up there. It's up there man. The acting is great. The action is brutal. The story is intense. The emotion is raw. A grand finale for the end of an era.

Italic/Bold - First time viewing
Yellow - Watch in theaters (in 2017)
Split - 7/10
An okay psychological thriller, although I'll admit the ending kinda made it for me. I won't give it away.
John Wick: Chapter 2 - 9.5/10
Hands down the best gunfighting I've seen in any film, even better than the first movie. Super fun.
Kubo and the Two Strings - 9/10
Nice to see a good animated film that isn't from Disney or Dreamworks. Beautiful visuals, and a good, surprisingly dark story. The humor is a bit hit or miss, though.
Hell or High Water - 8/10
A solid contemporary western. I liked the moral it wrapped up with.
Logan - 10/10
Besides trying a little too hard to be R rated at parts, it's pretty much perfect. I can't imagine a better send-off for the character. I'm hoping this paves the way for a new era of superhero movies that aren't afraid to try to be mature.
Kong: Skull Island - 8.5/10
Went in with almost no expectations whatsoever, was pleasantly surprised. Reminded me a lot of Godzilla 2014, in which the humans' story is decent enough, but somehow the giant fighting CGI monsters manage to be the most epic part.

Titanic (17 Mar): B
Moana (18 Mar): A-. That was refreshing. Absolutely loved the story, the characters, the animation....& the movie version of "How Far I'll Go" is hella better than the radio version.
A Star Is Born (19 Mar): B+. Cut 1 or 2 songs.
Kubo & the Two Strings (20 Mar): A-. So gripping, it kept me from falling asleep.

19. The Nice Guys, A: Second time around. I love this movie. Flew under people's radars. Definitely underrated.
20. Over the Top, D: Looooool. This was for a bad movie night with the buddies. The cover looked awesomely cheesy - Sylvester Stallone is a truck driver who gets into arm-wrestling matches. The reality? The movie is 95% about Sylvester Stallone trying to be a good father to his estranged young son and they bond on the road and there's about 10 minutes of arm-wrestling or any kind of action.
21. Beauty and the Beast, A: I love how they covered the plotholes of the original. Best live-action Disney movie remake IMO. The new songs were nice too!

The Intern (2 Apr): A-. The protagonist is static as a snowy TV, but he's still such a likable guy, & there's very little to cringe at here despite the film being in a style that's prone to relying on cringe comedy.

Avalanche (17 Apr): C-. Surprisingly solid cast, unsurprisingly weak disaster movie.
Equals (17 Apr): D+. They stole the setting of The Cure, the premise of Equilibrium, & the plot structure of The Island. And it was boring & stupid.

1. Police Story: A-, Jackie's second best to Legend of the Drunken Master. Memorable final fight. Top notch score.
2. Police Story 2: B+, good follow up, albeit one dumb plot twist
3. Crime Story: B, pretty good, just some plotholes and general questions like "Why didn't the bad guy do X, Y, or Z?"
4. Dragon Fist: C+, meh
5. Magnificent Bodyguards: D, haha okay, this started out cool but then the low budget production really began to show as I noticed strings holding up props and people left and right. They also shamelessly ripped John Williams' score to Star Wars. Yes. Imagine that for a moment - kung fu masters fighting to the tune of the Rebel Alliance. The plot had something going but the twist at the end was utterly stupid and didn't make ANY sense. ANY sense.
6. The Protector: B-, a solid mediocre martial arts/cop film. Some bad guys were thrown in who had nothing to do with the main story.
7. Rumble in the Bronx: B, ending was too abrupt, some character relationships were also abrupt. Also SO MUCH BASS. WHAT THE ****? LOWER THE BASS FOR GOD'S SAKE.
8. The Founder: A-, great flick about unveiling Ray Kroc's lies and deception about creating McDonald's.
9. The Fisher King: A, fantastic!
10. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty: B+, some usual tropes
11. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice: D+, second time watching it. I think we all know what's wrong with it
12. Suicide Squad: C, also second time, basically a step up from Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice
13. Inferno: C+, blah blah blah Dan Brown blah blah
14. Spirited Away: A-, never saw it before
15. Zardoz: Not applicable, this movie is special. There is no way to rate this movie, IMO. It's practically performance art. I really don't know how to rate it. Sure it's a ****ing weird-ass movie but is it "bad"? I really don't know. I just. . .I just don't know.
16. La La Land (times 2!): A, great musical. Let's be honest; the plot wasn't really that important. It was all about the style.
17. Dr. Strange, B+: Second time seeing it. Liked it more this time. Still feels a bit tropey because it's late in the game to introduce a new hero in the Marvel universe. But otherwise one of the top Marvel movies IMO.
18. Logan: A+, holy crap that was epic! This might sound crazy but I'm hoping this shows up on the Oscars. It's a long shot because the Oscar people are grade A snobby A-holes who never let in anything remotely fantasy/sci-fi, except for the original Star Wars, Return of the King and Arrival. But IMO, it's up there. It's up there man. The acting is great. The action is brutal. The story is intense. The emotion is raw. A grand finale for the end of an era.
19. The Nice Guys, A: Second time around. I love this movie. Flew under people's radars. Definitely underrated.
20. Over the Top, D: Looooool. This was for a bad movie night with the buddies. The cover looked awesomely cheesy - Sylvester Stallone is a truck driver who gets into arm-wrestling matches. The reality? The movie is 95% about Sylvester Stallone trying to be a good father to his estranged young son and they bond on the road and there's about 10 minutes of arm-wrestling or any kind of action.
21. Beauty and the Beast, A: I love how they covered the plotholes of the original. Best live-action Disney movie remake IMO. The new songs were nice too!

22. Bullitt, A: Man, one of my favorite movies. Had the first real car chase in a movie. Highly suggest every movie buff watch it.
23. Dirty Harry, A: Another one of my favorites.
24. Star Trek, C+: It kind of grew on me a bit more over time. Still has the most plot holes.
25. Star Trek Into Darkness, B+: I JUST REALIZED THAT MICKEY FROM DOCTOR WHO IS IN THE FIRST FIFTEEN MINUTES
26. Star Trek Beyond, A-: Say what you want - I actually enjoy this one the most. It really grew on me this second time I watched it. I like the motivation of the villain. I like how the first twenty minutes feel like the last twenty minutes - something unique. **** hits the fan early on. And I just like how this particular movie is not an origin story or some remake of a previous fan-favorite movie. It's completely new and begins with Kirk thinking about how the mission is taking a toll on his interest and how things maybe weren't as exciting as he thought.
27. Felidae, D+: NOT A CARTOON FOR KIDS. A noir detective story involving. . .talking cats? It's really bloody. I had heard of it before and when my gf found it on YouTube (the whole movie uncut for free) we decided to watch it. I honestly thought the gore would be worse. I appreciate the effort in making something different like this, but something about it was. . .boring. I fell asleep for a quick ten minutes in the middle. The ending wrapped up way too quickly.

The Loves of Hercules (forgot date): D+. Endearingly incompetent.
Yongary (forgot date): D-. The not-as-good version of Gamera.
Wizards of the Lost Kingdom (27 Apr): D-. Completely forgettable except for the yeti sidekick.
Wizards of the Lost Kingdom 2 (30 Apr): D. No more yeti sidekick, but David Carradine is pretty good.
Arrival (1/2 May): A-. I mean, if you've ever read/seen Watchmen, the twist is pretty weak, but this movie doesn't rely on the twist the way some do.
Carnival Magic (2/3 May): D-. Simultaneously bleaker than Carnivale but more inoffensive than that Power Rangers episode with the Putty clown.

28. Grave of the Fireflies, A: Sad as ****. Elegantly made. I was frequently unnerved by the gravity of the situation.
29. King Kong (1933), A: Holy crap, I was surprised how good this still held up almost a century later. I was surprised how violent it was for 1933. I read that there was supposedly a scene where the sailors get eaten by giant bugs that was later cut out because audiences gagged and left the theater. Peter Jackson, on the other hand, gladly put that scene in for his remake. The original is one of the all-time greatest adventure flicks in cinema.
30. Son of Kong, C: Ah - cinema's very first sequel. And like most sequels - it sucked. It had a good premise but then came crashing after they revisited Skull Island. There are only like 3 monster battles that are really uneventful. The climax happens out of nowhere.
31. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, B+: Second time watching it. I'm still annoyed by how choppy the first 30 minutes are. The last 30 minutes though? Whoo. Gives me chills every time.
32. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, B: It was good, but the first is a tad better. The ending dragged on with the final battle. I actually sighed aloud and almost said, "We're still here fighting the villain?"
33. Star Trek: The Motion Picture, B-: Oh boy, I haven't seen this since it was VHS and I was a kid. I remember being bored by it and only watched it like once. Now, with a greater appreciation for things and having watched the original series, I liked it more. It has flaws though. It tries hard to be like 2001: A Space Odyssey. There are long cuts and silences - very slow paced. But the concept is really great.
