^ Well, GT took place much further along the timeline than Super does. Super technically takes place before the end of Z, actually. I agree with everything you said though, especially Trunks' hair. At least change both of their hair. I was sure there would be a reason for it but they're just like "nope its blue now but only for future trunks, enjoy." Maybe they did it to spark conversation? It worked.

^^ I know Super takes place before EoZ but it looks like it takes place .3 months after Buu lmao. Peeps should look different after a couple years especially since they look different enough at the end of DBZ for their Super designs to show signs of aging. But no.......
I believe in second chances, and that's why I believe in you.
To be fair, Dragon Ball as a whole judged on its own merits is pretty mediocre.
They made a halfassed excuse for Bulma, she takes special care of her appearance, and as the richest person on earth and a genius it's almost believable that she can find a way to hold off aging for a bit (she's confirmed to be saggy though lmao). There's no good excuse for Trunks and Goten though, they should certainly have noticeably grown. Pan seems like she's in the same boat.
DBS judged on its own merits apart from the rest of the franchise is a mediocre anime, and as a continuation of the series it is only marginally better than that, I don't think it does a very good job in that regard. The only way to consider it good is to ignore the first two arcs (watch the movies instead) and forgive the sloppiness of the rest. Sounds pretty negative but it's still worth it if you're anything more than a casual fan. For what it's worth, I also think the manga is mostly better than the anime.
You can watch it for free on Crunchyroll's website.
Thanks. And I get what you are saying. I mean I was very invested in the DBZ run back when it first came to the US in English dubs. As long as they don't ruin Vegeta in this one... I think I will be okay. lol
I will check it out on that site tomorrow. How many episodes in is it?

Without reading the whole topic, I just want to make a couple of opinions known:
1) I'm so glad I was able to watch DBZ at a time when there wasn't an infinite number of opinions on the internet, because WOW the Dragonball fan base is (mostly) intolerable. It's fair to say that the animation in DBS is really bad at times (though Z had its moments) but the overall character development and filler especially is great (the Pan episode where she learns to fly is my favorite DBS episode honestly). Also, lol at everyone being like "Is Goku evil now????!?" It's not that deep. He's just a simple-minded guy that likes to fight for selfish reasons. I feel like the English dub of Z is the exception to Goku's character, cause in that version he is portrayed as this heroic figure who is trying to save his family/the world...which isn't totally inaccurate, but it's misleading. People just need to realize that he's literally the SAME as he was in Dragonball, it's just that he's an adult...and with that people presume he's wiser or something but that's ridiculously wrong.
2) Enough with the Gohan nonsense. His character has run a reasonable course, and it makes sense at this point that
He's only fighting in the tournament of power because he knows of the threat of Zeno wiping their universe out. Otherwise he has NO REASON to fight
Even still, it'll be more entertaining if other characters get a bit of spotlight. DBS's biggest problem for me is that it feels like the Goku & Vegeta show, and there are wayyyy too many good characters for that to be a thing.
3) I was so disappointed with the end of the Black Goku arc. I thought there were some really good ideas/concepts going on there, and there was some solid character development for future trunks, but that last episode really watered down all of that to the point where I was like "soooo why did we need to stretch this out for 30 episodes?"
That was way longer than I thought it would be.

^ on one hand, I feel u on point 3 (although my disappointment was more "they **** up the timeline and multiverse theory this is garbage, also sending trunks and mai back to a different future was stupid bc they wrote themselves into a corner". But I still love what that arc did for my husbando. The arc's pacing was **** nothing compared to DBZ after all lmao

Honestly I just usually ignore the fanbase's opinions most of the time. I know it's Dragon Ball and I know I'll likely enjoy it so eh.
Goku is pretty much just being Goku. Not much different about him. I kinda hope this arc develops him more though when it comes to his attitude of just fighting for the sake of fighting, they definitely seem to be showing off his ego alot more, so maybe they will. Who knows? Either way I'll probably enjoy it or at least enjoy the journey of seeing where it goes.

^ Agreed on the pacing. I actually thought they would just leave future trunks in their own timeline at first (and truthfully, he is the only character I could envision inspiring Gohan to fight seriously again in a way that makes narrative sense), but I wasn't mad with the whole alternate future thing...I mean let's give trunks a break/some happiness for once.
I just, that last episode was just really horrendous and in hindsight only served to set up the current arc.
If the story just cut from the point when Trunks sliced Zamasu in half to the time machine scene outside capsule corp that would've been PERFECT. But no. We get some BS about Zamasu turning into the sky or some ish like what?????
My issue wasn't with that, it was with the fact that "he destroyed the whole universe" turned into a writing corner that they backed themselves into bc they refused to let Future Trunks stay in the main timeline so they made up some ******** about a different future (which is different from the different future that ALREADY EXISTED in DBZ which Cell came from) by entirely retconning how their time travel works, and then act like that's a good solution and closure to Trunks and Mai's arc even though they won't have a place in that world bc HEY VERSIONS OF THEM ARE ALREADY THERE ??? That was just incredibly unsatisfying. I wouldn't have an issue with Zamasu's whole universe takeover if it didn't turn into "well now we don't know what to do with Trunks so"

I kind of like bittersweet conclusions so it was good for me at least. Trunks and Mai as the sole survivors cast into a place together where they don't belong is kind of sad, especially with Trunks breaking into tears at seeing Gohan before he left. But at least Trunks and Mai are together, right? Kinda cool. Would've been a bit much if Trunks had to go alone.
Time travel confuses the hell out of me so they very well could've broke their own established time travel rules but I didn't notice lol.

I'm just not sure how that episode added any weight or meaning to the story - if anything, it reversed what was already built up to for 20-ish episodes. Could you imagine Cell coming back AGAIN after Gohan's one handed kamehameha because reasons? That's sort of how I felt (albeit to a much lesser degree) at the end of the black Goku arc.
Also, agreed on the time travel stuff. They made it unnecessarily complicated.

It'll give you even more reasons to hate Goku, considering he's
Spoiler.
