I watched the history of trunks again after finishing the Future Trunks arc in DBS because I hate myself. Still soul crushing, slightly worse even right after seeing Trunks and main timeline Gohan's final interaction. Why do I keep doing this

^ also, like, it'd just be nice for him to be able to visit friends and family every now and then? Like does the world have to be literally destroyed for him to stop by lmao
also, DBS 70 has surpassed the drivers license episode as the greatest DB filler of all time. "I feel like I recognize this pose....." xD

Last two things I watched:
1. Arrival was one of the best sci-fi movies I've seen in a while if not only because it's not overdone. Some of the directions they take it in weren't my favorite but overall I think it does an awesome job keeping things "realistic." A lot of that is Amy Adams, I think.
2. I also saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which was mostly a very solid film but towards the end I tuned out because it was just setting up sequels instead of telling the damn story of the movie I was watching.

Just watched 'The Witch'. It was really good. Intense, heavy atmosphere-------------kind of the 'slow burn' approach to horror, which I like. You know, you see the fear and stress of the situation taking its toll on the characters, watch them unravel bit by bit. Kind of like 'The Shining', in that regard, or 'Aguirre, the Wrath of God'. Solid, creepy movie.
boo--------------a real american weirdo

^I really loved that one. It was among a slew of random rentals my girlfriend took a chance on that payed off. The Green Room was also amazing as far as under the radar films that came out this year, and it features some tragically fantastic acting from the late Anton Yelchin.
So I watched three cool pieces of Asian cinema this week, The Host (2006), Ip Man, and Godzilla (1954), and there wasn't a bad one on the bunch. Stylish, truly tense editing and direction in The Host, brutally fast action and surprisingly dark and thematic tone in Ip Man, and of course Godzillla is a masterpiece and it's very cool that it stars many actors who were also frequent players in the jidaigeki genre that I'm very fond of. As different as they each were, they had enough thematic overlap to work on every level and perhaps viewing them as close together as I have has improved their impact. Either way, I'm glad to have enjoyed them.

DOUBLE POST BUT DUUUUDE I JUST WATCHED SHIN GODZILLA AND MAAAAAAAN
This was everything I want a Godzilla film to be. I grew up with the campy Godzilla, with King Ghidorah and Mecha Godzilla and the like feeling like the entire point of the series. Y'know, the big, fun battles between forces of nature. Hell, as horribly frustrating as it was, I played the crap out of Super Godzilla on my SNES, and that's where I was introduced to a lot of iconic Godzilla lore. I delved into some of the great Kaiju fight films, and enjoyed them for what they were. As I've grown older, though, I did start to crave what I had heard (and shamefully only just yesterday saw for myself) was present in the 1954 original: a more in-depth look at some of the national psyche, a masterpiece movie that was equal parts spectacle and tone piece. I wanted THAT, but, well, updated. And that's what I got with this film. TONS of time with our favorite kaiju, a cool bit of sci-fi to explain his existence and physiology, and a GORGEOUS set of designs. The special effects are top notch, but they don't sacrifice the spirit of Godzilla to spin it way too super serious through the use of oppressive tone and darkness (ahem, I'm looking at you Legendary Pictures's Godzilla). No, somehow it retains a breathable atmosphere, despite the horror and dread, that keeps the film fun to watch even as the tension gets heavier. The film parallels a few elements of the original, but it is altogether told differently and treated with a little more directness. I don't want to spoil things, so I won't review it in detail, but suffice to say there is some very dark nuclear fear here that feels palpable, and there's even some satire of Japanese bureaucracy. It is a distinctly Japanese film and certainly more geared towards their national psyche, but this film is easy to grasp for any viewer and is filled with gorgeous spectacle and some excellent smashy smash scenes. Godzilla himself looks INCREDIBLE in this one and he just feels huge, though I do feel he was relatively stiff for a small portion of his rampage. They don't linger on that small stint of stiffness though, and Godzilla is just super powerful and fun to watch when he gets going. There's some great scenes where the buildings and falling debris have such palpable weight to them. It may lack some of the tense buildup of the 1954 masterpiece, which spent a bit longer establishing the tone of the film and creating a mystery around Godzilla, but it still has the depth of characterization and the powerful anti-nuclear weaponry message told on a bigger scale. Honestly, we as viewers can disregard the quick pacing and comparative lack of buildup simply because we already know Godzilla is coming, it's in the title ffs, so just show us Godzilla, and that they do very satisfyingly. It certainly ain't a film light on tension and action, though, and they keep the viewer invested in each twist and turn throughout. If you care even a little about Godzilla, whether for the big campy Kaiju battles or for the more frightening, dark entries in the series, this one's **** top gotdamn notch.

The Super Mario Bros Super Show - 52/65 episodes
I literally haven't watched this show in decades, & at the time, it was my least favorite of the 3 Mario shows. Looking back, the cartoons are actually fairly clever with their references, & the Princess's more active role in the action is genuinely enjoyable. The voice work is strong, the plots are a lot more varied than I remember them being, & even though they take tremendous liberties with the mechanics, the fights are pretty solid. That said, the animation itself is very lazy (one guest character doesn't have a face because the animators forgot to draw it, for example).
The underrated treasure of this show, though, is the live-action part. Albano & Wells's slapstick hijinks are honestly pretty dang funny, & without a Koopa to fight or a Princess to save, they got to do pretty much ANYTHING THEY WANTED story-wise. Even the most standard-seeming sitcom plots got some nice twists here & there.
One of the Netflix episodes is lacking the live-action Mario & Luigi portion, & it features the "Club Mario" re-run segments instead. Club Mario is horrible. The two hosts are not funny at all, & they constantly seem like they're (badly) ad-libbing everything they say & do in a failed attempt to look cool.
You'll notice I only watched 52 episodes. The 13 with Zelda cartoons instead of Mario cartoons are not on Netflix for some reason, even though the promos for them are still in the other episodes.
And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^ I haven't watched that show in for-****-ever. I remember that Princess Peach's active role was my favorite thing about it, because growing up as a youngun' I hated always having to play as the ugly DUDES (the Peach segments of Paper Mario games were always my favorite). Seeing princess action was 100% my ****.
....I should re-watch. The time is right, methinks.

I watched the first episode of GT because I've lost control of my life.
Bad fanfic premise aside, it's great because so far it's just been Pan wrecking **** and telling Goku to get the **** outta her way and let the big girls handle things.
Pan's just like a little Videl. I love her. And like, not to **** on Super, because I'm in love with Super, but. So far she's gotten more fighting action in one (1) episode than, like, every female character in the entirety of DBS so far combined. So...... >__>
(Bad fanfic premise NOT aside.... oh NO! PILAF USED THE SPECIAL FORBIDDEN DRAGON BALLS THAT WERE SECRETLY HERE ALL ALONG AND NOW GOKU IS A KID AGAIN AND WE HAVE **ONE YEAR** TO COLLECT THEM AGAIN OR THE PLANET WILL BE DESTROYED!!!!!1..... incredible)
2/10 premise but who cares I'm not here for the plot. 10/10 Pan, she's great. No Vegeta yet so the real series hasn't started obviously.
