I love. I LOVE. How protective Piccolo is of Gohan's happiness? He tells Trunks he won't let him take Gohan to fight with him in the future, because he KNOWS how much Gohan loves his family and his studies and how much he hated fighting.
I'm also in absolute disbelief at how Gohan has been allowed to grow into the EXACT PERSON he always wanted to be. I'm so happy??? He gets to play with his daughter and dress up as a superhero but he also takes his job and studies seriously (BUT NOT BEFORE HIS FAMILY!!) and he pursues strength only as a means to protect. Now that he isn't forced into the "savior of the earth" role that destroyed him both as a child and (in Trunks's future) as an adult, he's SO HAPPY. IT'S AMAZING!!!
and. Poor Trunks. he doesn't know how to feel because this image of Gohan is so different from BOTH images he has of Gohan, because both as a child in the main timeline and as an adult in his own, Gohan was externally a silent, serious, strong fighter. It's just that here he's finally become the person he always dreamed of being. Trunks can't grasp this happy and gentle person as being Gohan. But he's also upset that this mundane, peaceful lifestyle is something that's been repeatedly taken away from him. He has to accept that his Gohan is gone, but seeing how happy everyone is gives him something to fight for???
The whole 'reunion' was just done so well. It was really complexly thought out, IMO. Trunks was looking for someone to thank and get closure with, because his mentor is gone, but he had to face the truth that this Gohan is an entirely different person. But instead he did find a concrete reason to keep fighting. He felt lonely but also inspired. Poor Trunks, but also, I'm so happy he got to experience the magic that is baby Pan.
I would have liked to see Gohan be more empathetic toward Trunks (or for them to talk at all about... anything substantial really) but we can't have everything. Besides, their last meeting was mentally so long ago for Gohan - since he was a kid when they last met - and Trunks bottled up like everything, so it wouldn't make sense for Gohan to really know what to say without prompting. Given that Gohan had pretty much no context for how to act, this was really sweet. I also think it was nice for Trunks to NOT have to talk or think about his tragic backstory for a change, and to simply spend a day with nice people doing nice things.
im just going to lie down for a few more hours
Also, in related news, Gohan and Vegeta are still the best dads and Goku is still the worst

This means that I get to live through my future son's suffering *one final time* after I finish the arc in Japanese before I need to permanently say goodbye to new material with my him. (Probably.) Because I'm definitely absolutely watching the dub when it gets there, as I am a desperate woman when it comes to Future Trunks.

Also since I'm in this thread anyway imma just say Tsundere Dad Vegeta in entirety of the Future Trunks arc was incredible 10/10 would recommend to friends.
Now Trunks and Vegeta BOTH know what it's like to have their entire planets and everyone who lived on them die.
Double post because I feel the need to pass on knowledge that has been pointed out to me.
The clothing tears on his legs are in the exact same places, too.
I'm excited and apprehensive and scared and hyped for this arc all at once.
.......still really wish they'd do/hope they will do a timeskip in Super, though. Maybe after this story.
Like, I am beyond excited to see potential new development for my son Gohan (lol c wut i did ther), but I also would really like to see the ~next gen~ get more development. Will we get to see Pan grow? Will Goten and Trunks OR GOTENKS COUGH COUGH participate more in major events? It bothers me that the two are still kids when they should be in their early teens by now. One of the reasons Gohan is tied with Trunks as my fave is because we got to see him grow, got to see how his different experiences shaped his personality and character growth, and it was really incredible. I feel like since then, they've just been further developing the characters who are already popular because they've already gotten development rather than casting much spotlight on their kids.
I'm by no means complaining that Trunks and Vegeta and Gohan are getting development. I LOVE THOSE THREE. But one of my favorite aspects of DBZ was the sense of generations, of a story continuing as people grow up and dynamics change, and I'm really hoping we see that in Super. Goten and Trunks are fantastic comic relief, but I would really like to see them get to be more than that. Pan is an adorable baby and having her is shining a much-needed spotlight on Gohan's growth, but I'd like to see her grow up and get her own spotlight as well. I would really love more of a balance between seeing established fighters, and seeing new fighters come into themselves.
We're only 70 episodes in though, so I'm getting ahead of myself bitching about stuff I haven't seen yet. In the meantime I am excited at what is potentially to come. I LOVE GOHAN.
i just wanna see more gotenks though is that so much to ask

double post bc WTF Y'ALL, WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME GT IS ONLY 64 EPISODES??? Like I was avoiding it because I'll probs get salty about Goku, but **** man, that's less than the entirety of Super out now. WORTH IT for mustache Vegeta and awkward teen Trunks, easy. I know what I'm binge-watching this weekend..
