What were some times a cartoon made references to movies or literature that the target audience wouldn't get?

Billy and Mandy made Dune references.

In the 'Steven Universe' episode "The Message", Greg makes a passing reference to the song 'Video Killed the Radio Star'.

That song came out before I was born, never even mind SU's target demographic.

Every episode of SU with Pearl in it is a massive Utena reference. Bless.

Also there was that episode of Miraculous where the chef dude turned into Goku. That was amazing.

There was also a Hey Arnold episode that was a parody of Twelve Angry Men.

The eponymous character of Rango spouts off a quote from the 1942 play The Skin of Our Teeth (this is actually in-character, since Rango is established to be a big consumer of human media).

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

oh I guess Rugrats would be a perfect subject with the first two seasons having things like Louis Armstrong, Daleks, even doctor-assisted suicide
