I watched the movie yesterday and it sucked. I hoped for something like Wreak-It Ralph, but what I got was a movie with some terrible (and even NSFW) jokes. I feel ashamed for the kids that went to watch this movie imagining the same thing I did. Upsetting.

What I meant was that characters like Sonic were only cameos instead of real characters, and it relied on them to sell the idea to gamers. Gamers (at least me) probably expected to have more than that and went to see it because of the iconic characters. I wouldn't have been interested if it only featured generic characters.

I want to see Mario & Sonic as main characters, something like that, and go inside real video games instead.

I just saw and think that at best it's subpar but still entertaining solely for seeing your favorite arcade games roaming around. Q*bert was fun. I was bummed that they did absolutely nothing with Duck Hunt. I gasped thinking they'd tag along but no - the movie just cuts to a different scene and we never see them again.

WEIRDLY ENOUGH after it ended I kind of wanted more. I wanted to see more stuff blown up. Call me crazy. The whole pixelated CGI is pretty to look at.

It wasn't THAT NSFW. They say like two curses and Peter Dinklage has an inexplicable desire to be with Serena Williams and Martha Stewart but nothing is explicitly stated or shown. It's just awkwardly shoehorned trying to be funny.

The movie director in me can go on and on at how obviously bad this movie was put together. Of course there's no flow. The camera shots are dull and uninspired. Nothing that made me think "Wow, I never experienced that in another movie before" or "Wow, this is rare."

Oh and for some odd reason Sean Bean was pulled into this.

Highlights:
Q*bert
Fighting the alien arcade games

Lowest points:
The ridiculous "I'm friends with the president and met a girl who also works with the president" plot
Having to sit through Iwatani's Pac-Man scene after already having seen it 3253253 times in the trailers
Not using Duck Hunt as a character like Q*bert
Yet another conspiracy theorist nerd character who lives in his grandmother's/mother's basement
[SPOILER="You probably won't care but I'm tagging this anyway"]
Eddie is one of the "arcaders" that saves the world with Adam Sandler. It's revealed that he cheats in video games by inscribing stuff on the inside of his sunglasses, and he cheated when "playing" against the aliens to defeat the giant pixelated Pac-Man. However, the arcaders defeat Pac-Man by just following him in mini coopers through the streets of NYC and boxing him in. How could Eddie cheat? What did he write in his sunglasses that enabled him to cheat? It doesn't make sense. Was there some unspoken rule that they only had to drive on the main streets? It was so dumb. A lot of stuff was so dumb but that one really annoyed me like "Wait, what?"

^^ I guess to each their own, if they made Sonic, Bowser into main characters instead of making their own original characters I think that would've pulled me out of the movie.

adam sandler is such a weird dude. like i'm pretty sure he's known for being one of the absolute nicest, charitable dudes in Hollywood, but all his movies are generally mean-spirited and reek of cash-grabbing

(the original short film)

I don't think a videogame movie is really a good idea in the first place. There's too much stuff in every video game to cover. A long-form TV series would cover plot heavy games a lot better.

^ Just depends on the game. Clearly SMB didn't have enough to work with, and many games have too much, so you just have to choose something that translates well.

karg actually pretty much said what I think about video game movies in general, excluding what I listed as being really good movies[DOUBLEPOST=1437894989,1437894903][/DOUBLEPOST]actually, Street Fighter 2 and Professor Layton deserve special mention about that.

SF2 expanded on the series and even, for a while, made canon a few things such as how Sagat got the scar on his chest (he lost to Ryu in their match rather than Ryu giving in to the dark powers momentarily), or they just go in a completely different plot which is just as awesome in some cases (Professor Layton, full stop)

Nobody told me there was gonna be an Assassin's Creed movie. Wait, there's an Animal Crossing movie too?

About Pixels: I was interested in seeing it but I've never thought it was gonna be that bad.

Oh, forgot about the Animal Crossing movie. For some reason the villager was a... six year old girl? They had everyone else I guess, including Resetti.

^I mean, with AC's art style, the villagers look about 6 anyway.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

saying that Wreck-It Ralph should have had Sonic and Bowser as main characters is like saying that Who Framed Roger Rabbit? should have starred Mickey and Bugs Bunny. They're both much, much better movies for not going that route.

^ I don't see how it would have made either film worse. If the writing is good then it could work. It's just a matter of preference, I guess.

To me, Wreck-It Ralph's unique characters are like original content and having Sonic and Bowser be main characters would have been reposts.

Yes, there is. I liked the movie and watchedjust as much as I read Benny's Starfox comic. The movie starts pretty lame, but the ending is very nice. Sure, it's a diabetic adventure, but the series itself has that characteristic, so that's nothing too new. But I think you'll like it if you like these type of stuff.
