I haven't seen Michael Bay's TMNT flick, and I don't intend ever to, so I shouldn't cast judgment.

That said, the character design is effin gross.

I mean, I've seen a lot of Turtle biz over the years, and not all of it was super great, but the Turtles always had good models. Kind of stylised, cute and likeable in appearance, you know? Visually appealing, innit. And then the Bay flick shows up, and they look like the goddamn Uruk-Hai. What fool made that decision.

^ Love how their pads and such are becoming more and more brown, and they keep getting more of them, and they're all taped up on the feet. Next iteration they'll be 50% brown mummies.

You know what's sad is if you made the eyes white ala comic book style, they'd look just edgy enough to sell the idea that they beat **** up for a living. Currently they look like they've been kicked out of Over the Hedge.

So what is with reboots like Sonic Boom & TMNT and these bandaged, strangely shaped designs? Is that what's hip with the kids these days? Bandages?

They bandage their limbs because they can't bandage their wounded souls. Damn...

Their eyes go all white when in serious business ninja mode.

Pfffft. Yeah, you don't want your six-foot anthropomorphic sentient turtle ninja guys to look unrealistic or anything.

^ Nonsensical explosions/action with total disregard to physics and obvious plotholes are so cool. It's pretty clear that the whole Bay-ified solution to redesigning cartoon characters is 'put more sh*t on them' and call it a day. It's the Rob Liefeld pouches of cinema.
