Dragon Ball Super, a brand new television anime inspired by Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga, willpremiere on Fuji TV and other channels in July on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. This will be the first new Dragon Ball television series since Dragon Ball GT, which aired from 1996 to 1997.
The story of the anime is set a few years after the defeat of Majin Buu, when the Earth has become peaceful once again. The voice of Goku, Gohan, and Goten, Masako Nozawa commented on the new anime, saying, “We've always used the word 'chō' (Super) with Dragon Ball in commercials, games and the like, but the fact that the series titled Dragon Ball Super is beginning is the best thing ever.”
Fuji TV producer Osamu Nozaki commented on the new series as well, saying, “As I read the plot [of the series] I've already received from Akira Toriyama, my dreams for this begin to expand. An enemy even stronger than Buu or Freeza may appear...”
Toriyama is credited as the original creator, as well as for "original story & character concepts." Toei Animation's Kimitoshi Chioka (Hakaba Kitarō, Kamisama Kazoku) is the series director, and Naoko Sagawa (Yomiko Advertising, Inc.) and Atsushi Kido(Toei Animation) join Nozaki as producers. Kido entered Toei just as the company was animating the Dragon Ball Z anime's Freeza arc.
A new film taking place after the Majin Buu Saga, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' (key visual seen right,) premiered in Japan earlier this month. The film will eventuallyscreen in 74 countries worldwide. Funimation hosted the North American premiere of the film on April 11 in Los Angeles. The company plans to release the film in more theaters with an English dub this summer.

Here's an amazing idea. Let's explain my reasoning a bit more.
While I would like to see a continuation of Dragon Ball with Akira Toriyama, especially now that he's more dedicated to making more of these... It's not the advent of Shounen Anime anymore. What was once revolutionary in the medium is now sort of old hat. I hope they manage to shake up a few things and not fall into the pitfalls of a reviving franchise. Like working entirely on nostalgia for instance.
It doesn't seem like this will be the case so far but I'll still be carefully optimistic.

^^ Dragon Ball's worst still tops the current Bleach and latest Naruto. As bland as 60% of BotG was it still felt more fresh than what those produce. I'm just forcing my way through Bleach at this point, I am invested.
I do have some general fears, though. It's been so long that Toriyama was out of touch with his own series. He got back up to speed pretty well based on what I read in the RoF manga but I hope he doesn't drive it in the wrong direction. There is such a thing as overusing a series but Dragon Ball still has potential.
I was too excited to properly convey my thoughts, but basically, as long as they at least grant GT an "alternate universe" canonical status, I'll be satified. I would prefer they followed up GT instead, though. Either way, I am just happy to get more Dragon Ball and I'll enjoy it for what it is.
Someone brought up an interesting point elsewhere; will they try to get the other Z Fighters (non-Saiyans, basically) up to a decent level or will they be as irrelevant as they were from Perfect Cell forward (with a few shining moments)? I would like to see them all get a boost and introduce new characters like how they did with Trunks/Uub. Bringing back Power Level readings would be great.

First piece of artwork from Super unveiled, although this is from the manga version. It's uncertain how similar the anime appearance will be. This design (unsurprisingly) looks a lot more similar to Toriyama's recent character designs than his artstyle in Dragon Ball Z 20 years ago.

The boots are... weird. Also why is he so angry. Goku's a pretty happy guy all things considered.
It seems like Toriyama is adding a bit more detail to his characters. Before the shoes were just there now they have detail to them. It's interesting. I also have to wonder about what else they changed.

I've only got one question, and I know that we're all thinking this, so let's not beat around the bush: Will Goku finally take that dump? I mean, really?
Okay, two questions, but really this is more of a statement. I'd better see some more Destructo Disc.[DOUBLEPOST=1432361005,1432360917][/DOUBLEPOST]
Also why is he so angry. Goku's a pretty happy guy all things considered.
Well they're pulling him out of retirement for starters.

Seems Toyotaro is drawing the manga and Toriyama is doing story, maybe that picture of Goku is from him?
Actually, pretty sure it is.
