This blew my mind about movies

#1

I always knew writing books and short stories were similar to making movies. This video is a series of clips from great movies showing the first and last frame. Kurt Vonnegut always said to start as close to the ending as possible. Something like that. Now, in some movies I'm usually able to catch how things weave in full circle, but that's in the theme and story. But I think I get so warped into the story that sometimes I forget "Wait, what was the first scene again?" It's almost like the opening and closing of each movie shown here tells the entire story on its own - which again blew my effing mind.

Of course, this might mean obvious spoilers. Some select few more than others. The entire list of movies in the video is shown in the link.

The Kill Bill one was my favorite. Such an intense contrast.

Just get the first moment, the last moment, and fill the space between them. In fact, it would make a great creative writing game.

For example, we begin with a man frantically picking up the contents of a bag he spilled, hunched over it so that we cannot really see what he dropped. We end with a dog running up to someone in the distance. Then you write a story around that.
The man who is blind, deaf, and silent lives in peace.

This is my absolute favorite trope/tool/whatever

Especially when it's almost the same but SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT in a way that highlights important changes since the beginning

It's like when the last line of a book calls back to the first. I love this
I believe in second chances, and that's why I believe in you.
