Disney officially announced plans to produce a sequel to “Frozen.”

The company revealed plans during the Walt Disney Co.’s annual shareholders meeting on Thursday from San Francisco.

The first film’s directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck are developing the project with producer Peter Del Vecho for Walt Disney Animation Studios, which took home the Oscar for animated feature for the film.

A release date and production details are yet to be announced.

John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, made the announcement with Disney chief Bob Iger, and Josh Gad, who voices the character of Olaf in “Frozen.”

The sequel doesn’t come as much of a surprise, considering how the first film continues to be a major moneymaking force for Disney’s divisions since its release Nov. 22, 2013 — and helped reinvigorate Walt Disney Animation Studios.

“Frozen” generated nearly $1.3 billion at the box office and has become a merchandising juggernaut, breaking sales records on homevideo and at Disney’s stores.

Outside of a Broadway show and the animated short “Frozen Fever, “Disney has kept its “Frozen” sequel plans quiet until now.

“Frozen Fever,” which reunites the toon’s characters and song writers, will unspool in front of Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Cinderella,” out in theaters this weekend.

“We enjoyed making ‘Frozen Fever’ so much and being back in that world with those characters,” Lasseter said. “Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.”

Disney used its shareholder meeting to also announce details of its next “Star Wars” films, with Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: Episode VIII,” to bow May 26, 2017, and Gareth Edwards’ standalone “Star Wars” film, “Rogue One” to star Felicity Jones and be released Dec. 16, 2016.

But cool, I liked the first one enough, moreso the animation and looks of the movie, those were really quite stellar. Also quite a fan of Elsa xD

Since it was one of the biggest selling animated films ever, it doesn't surprise me. I thought it was good.

I stock cereal at my store every day, and I don't mind telling you, seeing the new Frozen breakfast cereal on the pallet kind of weirded me out.

'Frozen' is alright. Not really my jam (I'm more of a 'Robin Hood'/'Jungle Book'/'Great Mouse Detective' kind of guy), but I like it okay. That said, I can't see getting hyped for a sequel. I don't need to see any more of that sh*thead Olaf or them retarded trolls (or Kristoff and his pet moose/dog, for that matter). I kind of feel like the character arcs for Anna and Elsa were concluded. Why do this. (I mean, I know why, of course, it's a cash cow. Why otherwise, though.)

I don't know. I guess they're bound to devote more effort to this than any of them garbage direct-to-video sequels they pinched off in the nineties (any of you guys see 'Hunchback II'? I ask because bleuuurrgghhh). I'd prefer a brand new IP to this, but like who knows------maybe not having to establish a new premise affords them enough screentime to tell a more interesting story. (ahahaha sure that's exactly what happens------okay usa)

feels really really weird that they market Frozen as much as they do, it just doesn't seem like the movie that was made for merchandising, the little mutant snowball notwithstanding[DOUBLEPOST=1426355014,1426354916][/DOUBLEPOST]dp: that and how old is the movie and they're still making ****?

like I remember the Christmas after it came out, KMart kept getting phone calls for the Frozen dolls and how they were out of stock day 1. now look how far it is, come on market something else

I mean, I can see a Frozen breakfast cereal a year, sixteen months ago. Back when it was fresh and new. But this biz literally didn't exist before January 2015. Think you're a hair past the point of freshness as far as merchandising goes, fellas!

Hell, why not put out an 'Over the Hedge'-based cereal while you're about it.

Tangled was a lot more fun to me. Although Tangled could have added more.

By the way, has anyone noticed how a Disney titles seem to be getting more minimalist? Tangled. Frozen. Brave (Pixar too but whatever)

^Huh. That is odd-------hadn't really noticed that before. Like, even when Disney movies diverged from the source material before, they still retained the title, at least. Suppose it would have been foolish to name it 'The Snow Queen' considering the film 'Frozen' has literally nothing to do with that story at all. (Can't speak to the others, not having seen them. 'Tangled' and 'Brave', I mean.)

^ they could have named "Tangled" "Rapunzel" and it would have made perfect sense. It came off at the time as a title that reminded me of some sort of terrible sitcom. Made me resist seeing it forever because of how LOL XD it was marketed.... Now Disney's just sorta ran with this naming style?
