Fun fact: A Bug's Life is an adaptation of Akira Kurasawa's Seven Samurai. Pretty cool.

The Toy Story trilogy is one of those rare trilogies that is wholefully good in overall quality. But I felt the humor was wittier in 1 and 2, definitely 1. There's nothing really wrong per se with 3; I'm just more of a fan of the layered, often condenscending, humor in 1. I wanted to cry like a little B in 3, which was great in making me feel that way, but I hardly found myself actually laughing out loud.

That's true, it's pretty bad of me to judge Cars before watching it. Every one of my bookish friends hates James Patterson but I actually read one book before judging. But I have seen clips of Cars and have been exposed to its characters so many times that I already feel as though I'm not going to enjoy it. I can't help it.

That's odd. I swore I read it somewhere because I remember thinking about it and saying to myself "Oh, that's right!" It's not on the IMDB trivia page either. If it wasn't a direct adaptation then it was definitely inspired by Seven Samurai. Bandits keep raiding a town. One guy goes off to find warriors and comes back with them, then they train to fight the bandits. Grasshoppers keep bullying ant community. Flik goes off to find warriors and comes back with them, then they train to fight the grasshoppers.

Oh, on the wiki page it says a CRITIC compared it to Seven Samurai. But I still swear I read it elsewhere not from a critic. Eh. Whatever. It's maybe just a case of similar plotline that was unintentional.

Oh I TOTALLY forgot about Monsters University. That was okay. Just okay. I think I laughed more at the teaser trailer than most of the movie.

Not to break up the Pixar discussion going on or anything, but I feel the need to bring up the first two movies I thought of when i saw the thread title.

I was absolutely bored out of my mind watching both Days of Heaven and The Tree of Life (somewhat fitting that they were both directed by the same guy). I don't think that I've ever seen any other movies where so damn little happens in two hours. They easily could have both been condensed into half hour shorts. I guess the point of both of them was to focus more on cinematography than plot, but my god, that holds absolutely no sustained interest to me in the slightest. These are the kinds of movies I would watch when I need something to help me fall asleep. Kind of boggles my mind how Terrance Malik is so widely regarded.

Has anyone seen Epic Movie? Don't. Seriously.

Scary Movie was tons better than that. And Scary Movie isn't even a good movie.

^True that. They just don't make spoof movies like they used to (Airplane!, The Naked Gun, anything Mel Brooks, etc)

Spoof movies just became either way too raunchy or just. . . stupid.

Every time I see another parody movie, I die a bit more.

The Last Airbender movie. It was an awful waste of 5 dollars to even see it. I would put most of Shyamalan's movies down too. The earliest ones are not that bad. I thought Signs was a great comedy, for example.

I also don't like Adam Sandler movies in general. In fact, having to sit through Jack and Jill probably makes that my most hated movie.

It doesn't help that most of, if not all of the recent spoof movies have been made by the same group of people.

I'm reasonably confident the reason I like Pixar movies is because ive only seen them once. I loved Up but then I watched it again and had a hard time getting through it; seemed like it was almost all shock value and once I knew the plot the characters weren't interesting enough to keep me coming back

There's really more punch in a by-the-numbers Spielburg flick any day, but Pixar does play with expectations enough to string people along. Up startled brilliantly, but by the time they get to the jungle the movie was over for me.

I like 'Wall-E' best, with 'Up' close behind. 'Toy Story' and 'Monsters Inc' are good. 'Toy Story 2' is alright. I didn't care for 'Toy Story 3'. 'Cars' and 'Finding Nemo' are garbage. I don't believe I've seen any others.

I don't see the problem with Finding Nemo. It is perhaps not remarkable but I thought it was really good regardless.

I can understand why people wouldn't like Cars though. At the very least I can say it was better than Cars 2.

...maybe I needs to watch 'Finding Nemo' anew. Been a few years, and even when it was brandspankinnew I was a little annoyed at how it was kind of meant to win things it didnt really deserve. It just really didn't hit me at all. Maybe we see.

My feelings toward Pixar is generally similar to my feelings toward Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu: I tend to dislike their movies in hindsight, even though while watching them I might think to myself "well this is okay."

As I mentioned before, Wall-E and Toy Story 2, which I do still like in hindsight, though I've only seen them both once each.

I can kind of tell Pixar wants to tell darker stories but I bet Disney has them chained up like Microsoft had Rare pumping out Viva Pinata and Kinect titles.

I'd love to see an adult oriented Pixar film in my time.

^ Honestly, I'd just like to see more adult-oriented animation getting attention outside of a tiny niche audience in general, but for some reason animation is still seen as being "for kids." Not that there isn't some successful adult-oriented animation, but keeping perceptions the way they are is just extremely limiting. So many artistic possibilities just being ignored.
