^^ Nobody is using anything to justify sexism or anything else in this topic. This reminds me of black Jesus and black Santa. It's ridiculous, plain and simple. Think I care about Spider-Woman? Nope, it's Peter Parker's daughter. Now if they made Spider-Man into a woman I'd throw a fit. If this black Spider-Man were Pete's product of adultery then I'd be cool with it.

Just replacing Pete with any old race or genital configuration arbitrarily doesn't do anything for the franchise and it doesn't exist to cater to the supposedly underrepresented.

Sadly I don't own all the characters on earth so some will be annihilated by this nonsense so the least I can do is whine about it.

Actually, part of the deal with those games is that they're part of larger business ploy to drum up interest in the franchise so the next film could be made. They exist mostly because of the push to create the film.[DOUBLEPOST=1423110514,1423110230][/DOUBLEPOST]
Can we use this topic to talk about how awesome "On My Own," the theme from Ghostbusters 2 is? Good track, although it doesn't really have much to say about ghosts or busting them.

you raise a good point. an integral part of the original song was that it addressed busting and how good it makes you feel
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

It's all right. I like the original better. How about 'Spirit'? That one's pretty hype.

A.I: Makes sense from a business perspective but the franchise has always been somewhat alive regardless.

The only people I can really see getting logically upset by this are people that care about the canon of Ghostbusters.

Man. Speaking of the 'Ghostbusters II' soundtrack, that's where I got my first taste of Oingo Boingo. Like what did the first movie's soundtrack have? The Thompson Twins and Air Supply, are you effin kidding me here?

...'Magic' was rad and spooky, though, credit where credit is due. Man.
I don't see how anything you said detracts from the point I made. It is literally no different than having a new character take over the role of Captain America or Spider-Man. Different. But the series will go on. Fans will survive with the conversion, as you put it. The original will still exist.
Now see, you're using logic.

That has no place in the world of Fandom. Fans will see "oh my god I can't enjoy the new one, which means I can't enjoy the original one - because there'll be new people in here and they will like the NEW one! I can't learn to simply find what we both enjoy and get along with them; I must distance myself from them and use these different people as a group of people to **** on to feel better about myself." Fans of a franchise are actually a lot rarer than you think - because a franchise fan will be willing to try out something different and approach something with an open mind rather than expect it to cater to their nostalgia. :P Even if they may not be as fond of it, you can tell the people who are just fans of the franchise versus one or two particular things because they may be able to hold some kind of fondness for this new and unpopular (To them) installment. Usually, if they really hate it, they may just react with a passive disinterest.

I mean, "fan" is short for "Fanatic" after all...

I wouldn't doubt changing the sex of the whole cast is an attempt to generate hype. There's no other strategical reasoning for it, and it'll probably pay them handsomely once the movie's released because it's working. What else could a dead series do to pull in new viewers?

^ Dan Akroyd is a pretty good person all around, and he very likely actually wants to help create more lead roles for women that aren't relegated to the main character's girlfriend. It is very, very difficult to launch an original film like Ghostbusters these days, due to investors and studios having cold feet, but it is possible to use an existing one with proven selling power, such as Ghostbusters, itself.

Are we still pretending women don't have good, prominent roles often?

"On My Own" may be the "official" theme to Ghostbusters II, but the real theme to that movie is "Higher & Higher." :P

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^...I'm going to assume you're referring to the real one, dear. The Jackie Wilson version they play during the toaster scene. Because if you're trying to bring that Howard Huntsberry pap, you and I are going to have a 'Beat It'-style hands-tied knife-fight. And there aren't Michael Jacksons enough in all the world to break up the combat before one of us has been defeated.

I barely know what you're referring to, but I like it.
Nonsense, I have not yet begun to defile myself.
