I loved it. Haven't seen the stage version, but I looked up the changes that were made, & most of them make sense.
And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^Four different Grimm tales (non-Disneyfied, despite the film being produced by Disney) intertwined with some more grounded-in-reality original characters, with a "realistic" depiction of the aftermath of each story's conclusion. Music by Stephen Sondheim. Pretty darn cool, in fact.
And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I directed this show at my college, so I was really excited for this release. I absolutely loved it. The changes and cuts made perfect sense (and were actually improvements, in some cases). And even when they cut a song, the orchestra still played it in the background during the scene, as if to say "Hey fans of the source material, we had to cut this song, but we still love it as much as you do."
Extremely well-done movie, I love it and I look forward to seeing it again.

I would've liked 'No More', myself. Suppose the baker's father was a bit of a nonentity in the film version. They could have put him in a bit. Give us a bit of that old 'when first i appear i seem mysterious, but when explained i'm nothing serious' biz. I mean, they gave us an instrumental motif, but the song itself would've been nice.

Still remains one of my top 3 musicals, the songs are so darn catchy. I'm not too fond of the way the last midnight was done in here(my fav song from into the woods in general), but it was still good.
I've listened through the soundtrack of this about 5 times too since seeing it XD
I wish

Meryl Streep was really good as the Witch, but...you know, she's not quite Bernadette Peters, is she.
I've missed Tracey Ullmann. Haven't seen her in anything in ages.
Johnny Depp kind of featured in the advertising to a degree incommensurate with his screentime. I guess he's kind of one of the biggest names in the project, but did he have five whole minutes of screentime? Three whole minutes? I wouldn't swear to it.

That really bothered me too! His song was under 3 minutes, and there was only a tiny bit of him after.

That's just how The Wolf is. On stage he is usually played by the same actor as Cinderella's Prince to make up for it.

I'm not surprised at all. When you get a star like Depp in a minor role most studios are still gonna advertise him as a larger part because he might be able to get some asses in more seats.
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

They also trimmed down the Wolf's part on account of casting such a young Red.
