Rage gets a rating of CAGE because this might be the worst Nicolas Cage movie I've ever seen. It's not his fault it's just like awfully written, has the dumbest plot twist ever, and nothing ever makes any sense

Top Five (Chris Rock, 2014) - 12/20/14 - B
I was impressed by Top Five. I've seen some of Chris Rock's other movies he's directed and they're mediocre at best. Also by far Rock's best acting performance... ever? Some of the scenes seemed unnecessary (in particular, the journalist's boyfriend scene goes on far too long) but Cedric the Entertainer's entire part was brilliant, WEE-BEY IS IN THIS MOVIE, and it has the best celebrity cameo since Bill Murray in Zombieland when
DMX shows up.
Also Jay-Z, Kanye, and Questlove all helped produce this movie so I'm not surprised at all that I dug it because those three are my heroes.

John Dies at the End - 02/13/2014 - 6/10
Aguirre, the Wrath of God - 02/13/2014 - 9/10
The Lego Movie - 03/03/2014 - 10/10
Sita Sings the Blues - 03/04/2014 - 10/10
Frozen - 03/27/2014 - 7/10
The Nut Job - 04/15/2014 - 2/10
Mr. Peabody and Sherman - 06/11/2014 - 8/10
The Lorax - 06/14/2014 - 0/10
Fritz the Cat - 07/03/2014 - 7/10
Whore of the Rings - 10/15/14 - 5/10
Whore of the Rings 2 - 10/15/14 - 6/10
Lord of the G-Strings - 10/28/14 - 3/10
Into The Woods - 12/26/14 - 9.5/10
I really liked it. The casting was really good (Meryl Streep rather stole the show, of course, but, well, the Witch is kind of meant to go to a show-stealer). The music was well-done and well-integrated, and the staging was clever ('On the Steps of the Palace' was depicted as it happened, with Cinderella sort of freezing the action of the film and giving her song in-time, rather than as she thought of it later on------interesting). It was lush and pleasant to look at, and didn't at all feel its length.
About the only complaint I could make is that, well, they streamlined things somewhat. Some characters were largely or entirely omitted (the baker's father/hermit barely features at all), some scenes were dropped, some songs were trimmed down or lost altogether (most notably 'Ever After', 'I Never Thought I'd Be So Happy', 'Agony (Pt. 2)', and 'No More'. It didn't hurt the film. In fact, inasmuch as the events of the film take place in one solid space of about a week at most, rather than one three-day span in the first act and then another few days about a year later (as in the stage version), the first three of them don't make a lot of sense in the film's context. Like, the stage version works because there's an intermission and all------the film doesn't have an intermission, so it makes sense they'd stitch everything together into one cohesive narrative. As for 'No More', well, the score refers to it-----like, there's a swell up to it, it seems like he's about to start the song, but then it doesn't happen. Sort of wonder if they filmed it and cut it for time. Ehhhh.
None of this detracts from the film itself, of course. One should properly view it as its own thing, rather than comparing it to the stage version (any of you guys ever see Roger Ebert's review of 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead'? He gave it zero stars because he didn't think it was as good as the play. I mean, I know criticism is inherently subjective, but, for heaven's sake, he gave even the damn Power Rangers movie half a star. Lame).

I knew I'd never make 30 movies... but I am impressed with those who not only achieved that, but went well past it.
In the week leading up to Christmas, I watched:
The Polar Express
Elf
Frosty the Snowman
Christmas with the Kranks
A Christmas Story
Santa Claus is comin' to town

She lives in the clouds and talks to the birds...
