Haven't checked out the manga, but the anime is tied for my favorite anime with slayers.

It has a great story, and has good characters, although if your not into romance, it might get on your nerves.
Total slaughter, total slaughter. I won\'t leave a single man alive. La de da de die, genocide. La de da de dud, an ocean of blood. Let\'s begin the killing time.

I've watched it!

Tamahome = One of the sweetest guy characters ever. *wistful happy sigh* I had the privilage of meeting his voice actor at last year's Anime North... such a kind guy. ^__^

Miaka? ....She's okay. She reminds me of Serena/Usagi in a way, and she CAN be quite annoying.

And her friend Yue? OH PLEASE GODS AND GODDESSES STRIKE HER DOWN! PLEASE!

The romance does make the story drag at times--there's this whole part where certain figures run away from other figures, then reverse this and then double it, then auuuuuughaaaaaughhaaaaaaaaaguuuuuuuuh.

But you know, these things aside, it really is a great series. A classic, almost? Well, an older series. And.. I love the ending. *sniffle*
The hills are shadows, and they flow
From form to form, and nothing stands;
They melt like mist, the solid lands,
Like clouds they shape themselves and go.

^ Which ending do you mean? Cause there are like 3 different endings: The Ending from the anime, the ending from like a post-anime mini-series, and an ending for another post-anime mini-series. Not to mention the movie.

Personally, I loved the funny bonus anime, of when the characters of Fushigi Yuugi go to some hot spring to relax. ^_^ (though it did strike me as odd, since the .Hack//SIGN bonus anime also went to a hot spring)

I was speaking of the series ending. ^_^ The bonus stuff I haven't really watched--I've only seen that bonus one you described.

If you intend on getting the anime, I hope you get some dub version, which I haven't watched yet, but I'm sure they can't find someone whose voice is more grating than Miaka's VA in the Japanese version.

^ You can't be serious??? The Fushigi Yuugi Dub totally sucks, they're horrible. If you plan on getting FY, be sure you get it with the Japanese voices with US subs, any other way just isn't worth watching!

pick up a bilingual copy and then everyone can be happy if you think the dub or sub sucks.

I haven't watched the dub, but, as I said, I find it hard to imagine that they could've found someone whose voice is more annoyingly high pitched than Miaka's in the original. If you don't like the English dub, get the Spanish, German, or Cantonese dub with English subtitles or something.

^ The US Miaka isn't high-pitched or anything, but it is majorly pathetic. The girl doing the dub shows like as little voive emotion as possible, and she just sounds awful in the part. Not to mention what they did to Tomo! Oh, poor Tomo.

Sorta liked the horribly timed voice acting to AKIRA?

I love Fushigi Yuugi, but I cannot stand Miaka. Yu Watase could have TRIED to make a tolerable main character. She's ANNOYING as hell, and for some reason...is this a spoiler? Well, every single guy falls in love with her. Even the gay one.

Other than her, it's an excellent series.

I love the anime Fushigi Yuugi if you go to ebay where I got my copy you can buy the series with the extra's for like 40 bucks, I think it's cheap and is not a bootleg at least from the person I got it from. The series has it goods and bads, but it's still great! I loved the ending in the series and I love Tamahome and Tasuki^^

Other than the main character, who is on screen pretty much all the time, it's an excellent series... that doesn't sound quite right, Elrond.
