Haven't watched a VHS tape in a while. Glad to know the VCR still works.

Guys, I watched some movies!! Way hay hay

Movies 2/30---

John Dies at the End - 02/13/2014 - 6/10
Aguirre, the Wrath of God - 02/13/2014 - 9/10

JDatE was good for the first hour, and then it kind of fell apart. Maybe I was destined to be disappointed, being a huge fan of the book and all. 'Aguirre'...I think I'd need to watch again before I could comment sensibly. Kind of weird and unsettling---not quite fun for the whole family. Klaus Kinski is really at home in your 'burgeoning madman' roles, isn't he.
boo--------------a real american weirdo

Val's beginning to wonder if he's ever going to watch a movie this year.

Up to 5/30:

Wordplay (Creadon, 2006), 1-2-14 – 10/10
Annie Hall (Allen, 1977), 1-13-14 – 586/10
Runaway Train (Konchalovsky, 1985), 1-23-14 – 6/10
Paul (Mottola, 2011), 1-24-14 – 6.5/10
Risky Business (Brickman, 1983), 2-15-14 – 8.5/10

The last of these was what catapulted Tom Cruise (and possibly also Curtis Armstrong of Revenge of the Nerds fame) to stardom. I think it's brilliant because it uses both humor and humanity to explore a man's psychology as he comes of age.

16. Nacho Libre - (4/10) Was there some sort of deeper meaning to this movie? Is the fact that it wasn't funny supposed to be what was funny about it? I don't know, apparently some people like the Napoleon Dynamite style of "off-beat" humor, but it doesn't do anything for me. I don't think I laughed a single time. Jack Black was mildly amusing and made the movie watchable, at least.

17. Fearless - (7/10) I don't watch many foreign-language movies, but I guess I enjoyed this one. I can't say much for the story or characters. Honestly, the language barrier makes it hard for me to truly connect with either of them. It was just cool to watch Jet Li's epic fight scenes. Lots of great choreography and effects.

18. RoboCop (2014) - (7.5/10) I know I saw the original movie some years ago but I barely remember it. So, judging this remake on its own, I can say it was a surprisingly intelligent and exciting sci-fi movie. I really like these stories that explore the philosophy and morality of technology, transhumanism, human nature, etc. Plus it has some awesome effects and action. I'll have to give the original movie another watch, most people are saying it's better (and I don't doubt them), but this one held its own just fine.

Movies: 20/30

Mallrats (21 Feb) - 5/10
Seriously, how did Jeremy London get parts after making making one of his first leading roles the least interesting character in the dang film?

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

The Bridge on the River Kwai (Lean, 1957), 2-22-14 – 10/10

The last one is a timeless classic: a story of standing by your principles and, at the same time, knowing how to negotiate with an enemy who still strongly believes in bushido.
