Hey everyone, hope you don't mind me joining the party! I've recently watched the first Hunger Games movie. I actually really enjoyed it, although I'm sure the books must be better (since they always are). Anyways, I was really surprised about the movie and I look forward to watch the second one that came out recently.

Went and saw The Dallas Buyer's Club. It was a lot more interesting than I expected.

I recently saw Pitch Perfect. I would describe it as Mean Girls crossed with a more mature and refined version of Glee, revolving around a sort of Romeo and Juliet dynamic. Talk about a pastiche.

Overall, it was worthy of the three stars my TiVo ratings gave it.

In the past week, Desolation of Smaug (good, but I would've liked less of Legolas & his leggy lass) & A Good Day to Die Hard (fun but convoluted, & Jack is not nearly as interesting as Lucy).

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

The Saddest Music in the World

Love this movie. I don't watch it very often, and every time I do I guess I completely forget how good it is. If you like your comedies pitch-black and surreal as hell, you might just eat it up.

Over break, my girlfriend and I watched several movies. In order:

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug -- Pretty good, much more enjoyable than the first, but holy mother of God is Peter Jackson like George Lucas in that he needs someone to tell him NO sometimes.
Frozen -- Damn good. I was spoiled a priori, so the twist didn't effect me that strongly, but it is perhaps one of the best Disney princess films they've ever made.
Ender's Game -- Don't even get me started. While I did enjoy this film providing me finally a proper visualization of the book I read so many years ago, it is a bad movie both from a practical standpoint and from a story retelling standpoint. It skips large parts of the book without so much as acknowledging them, and those skips completely undercut some of the very reasons why Ender Wiggin was a pretty awesome kid.
Anchorman 2 -- I haven't seen the original, and I tend to hate Will Ferrell and most everything he does. However, either because or in spite of me going in with zero expectations, I laughed quite a bit at it. While it is meant to be scathingly satirical of the modern news cycle and the plot reeks of unoriginality and predictability, neither of those are really the important bits. It's funny and filled with quotable lines. Want to see the first one now.[DOUBLEPOST=1388990606,1388990427][/DOUBLEPOST]And then on the plane ride back from Aus, I watched:

Elysium -- Dang that was good, but I was a little disappointed because I was expecting a few things different than what actually happened. Kinda lame that most of the Elysium parts took place in exactly one building.

The Great Gatsby -- I didn't actually finish this one because I was tired and I read the book... and I finally have the wherewithal to understand what the book was actually trying to achieve, and now I feel very much like hindsight!Nick Carraway, but dang is that an impressive movie. Very stunning visuals and a really awesome mixture of modern themes with Roaring Twenties culture. Wish I had seen this in the theaters when it came out.

The Godfather -- No, I'd never seen this all the way through. And I still technically haven't because the plane landed with about 40 minutes left before the movie ended. But dang do I now understand why it's a classic.

oh my giddy aunt bump

So I've just watched The Road to Wellville for the first time in positive ages.

You know, I love this movie. It's weird, horrible and gross, but also really charming and funny. Like, the production values are super-high, the performances top-notch, the music is great. I'm given to understand the principal actors ended up despising the project (one of the reasons the film sort of got buried), but that shouldn't signify.

I watched Godzilla.

This was the best thing ever.
I really like how they made Godzilla the "hero" in it instead of killing him. Yayyy
