As you may or may not know, a new Bond film's coming out next month. Thoughts?

Saw it tonight. It was really fantastic. Possibly the best of the Craig Bond movies that are out so far. I really like
how it sets up the core cast of characters for the new rebooted franchise with a new Q, Moneypenny, and M. The homages to the classics were also great.
also Javier Bardem should be the villain in every movie.
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

Yeah, it was a great Bond movie. I've only seen the ones since Goldeneye, but I liked it as much or more than Goldeneye or Casino Royale.

I liked it pretty well, although it really did seem to have a rather loose plot with the end becoming a bit nonsensical.

I haven't seen this film, and don't plan to. I've never been much for James Bond, but I particularly dislike Daniel Craig as Bond. The Pierce Brosnon films were okay, mostly because he was my favorite Bond next to Sean Connery.

So I just saw it. I liked it a lot. I kind of think it's the best Bond flick this side of 'Living Daylights' (high praise). Want to see it again.

Javier Bardem was pretty awesome.

Pretty sure I recognise the villain's crazy abandoned island from a Cracked article I read one time---wonder if that's where the filmmakers got the idea to use it.

I think we're meant to look on Craig's tenure as prequels to the Bond saga---as I recall, 'Casino Royale' more or less opens with Bond achieving double-oh status.

...although I've also heard a fan theory that James Bond isn't actually a single person, but rather a code name assigned to England's top agent at any given time. Hence the changes in appearance. Makes sense in-universe, too, considering the stories of certain films in the franchise. Like, Lazenby!Bond goes on permanent psych leave (or something) when his new wife is gunned down in front of him at the end of 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service', and Connery!Bond is then called out of retirement for 'Diamonds are Forever' until a permanent replacement can be found; Dalton!Bond gets court-martialed (or whatever) after all or retires due to the events of 'License to Kill'---that kind of thing. Neatly avoids the problems inherent in placing the current-tech post-Cold War Bond flicks before the dated-tech then-current-Cold War Bond flicks in the timeline.

Skyfall went out of its way to indicate that the classic Bond characters were potentially names or identities re-used by the agency, at its end. One mantel is delivered to another, etc. The whole film has a very convoluted meta-plot that isn't necessarily visible to an inattentive audience, similar to the Dark Knight.

Well, I think it was already obvious that "M" & "Q", as well as any agent numbers, were transferable code names. I seem to recall in Goldeneye (one of the few Bond films I've actually seen), somebody even explicitly referred to "the new M" being a woman just before Judi Dench entered the scene.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^It was Alec. She started after he ended his tenure at MI6. I think they brought her back as M in Casino Royale despite it defying continuity.
