Movies you like that everyone else hates
I saw this video on the ThatGuyWithTheGFlasses website one day, and it's a question I like asking people now. One of the movies I really enjoy is Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Alot of people think of it as this crappy movie, if not the crappiest one out of all of the Star Wars movies, but, I enjoyed the crap out of it. Liam Neeson as a Jedi was awesome, Darth Maul was awesome, the music was awesome, Jar Jar bBinks......... next. I will say, I don't like Jar Jar Binks, but, he's not as crappy as people say. Yeah, C3PO and R2-D2 are better comedic characters, but, I can tolerate Jar Jar Binks. It's a shame so many people can't stand this movie.
Godzilla 1998. I will say, yes, i've seen several of the older Godzilla movies, and compared to them, yes, this movie sucks. It's not even a Godzilla movie. It's a movie with the Godzilla name in it. As a movie by itself though, it's fun. I will say though, even when I first saw it, I was confused because I hadn't seen an older Godzilla movie at that point, but, I did know he was kind of a good guy, and it sucked that King Ghidorah wasn't in it, and his look was definitely changed. Even back then, I thought they went crazy with the different look. I was fine with a change, but, even then I thought that looks nothing like Godzilla (the Millenium era look is actually good!). Anyway, it's a good movie by itself. As a Godzilla movie, no, it sucks, as a movie though, it's fun. Just a nice, fun action movie.
X Men 3: The Last Stand. It has Beast, that's my entire reasoning.

I think that the main problem is that it wasn't written towards a 5th grade audience, so the general movie-goer kind of struggled to see the beauty in it. It is definitely one of my favorite movies.A$AP Bomby wrote:Cloud Atlas, apparently. A lot of people called it cheesy, convoluted and overreaching, but I thought it was the real deal.

Mostly I think it's because Jones used to be a stone-cold killer and action hero, more like a rugged James Bond in the jungle. Jones 4 was set in a different time period, which kind of muddled it, and genuinely just made Jones seem a bit old and tired.
I still liked it. Needed that nazis melting, golden-age-of-hollywood-era factor, though.

Hook. Points off for dialogue & score (what was John Williams thinking!?), but I loved all the other aspects of it.
Sucker Punch. Most of the complaints I hear are with regard to it not making sense, but it made total sense.
Walk Hard. Bad timing killed this movie. Not bad timing IN the movie, bad timing for the release; it came out during the height of Friedberg & Seltzer's reign of terrible spoofs, & people just assumed it was one of those. I also know a guy who refused to watch it just because Walk the Line is good. I was like, "dude, it's okay to parody something that's good," but he was having none of it.
Mystery Men, Hancock, Watchmen (I know, fewer people hate this one), & really any good superhero-deconstruction movie that isn't a Nolan Batfilm.
And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I think it's mostly because people thought it was pointless to even attempt to make an adaption of such a complex, "unfilmable" comic. I can kind of see where they're coming from, Watchmen mostly told its story through small details and written backstory that required you to slow down and analyze them. It works because comics can do that as a medium, you can read at your own pace, you can stop and look at a page or panel as long as you want. For what it's worth, they probably made as good of a Watchmen movie as you can get, it just doesn't have quite the same weight that the comic does.Tunnel Snakes RULE! wrote:Eh, people don't like Watchmen? I'm just curious who didn't like Back to The Future 2. I always thought it was one of those rare movies that actually did better than the first. The first one is a classic, no doubt, one of my all time favorite movies, but, for me, the 2nd one will always be the best. The 3rd one was good, I will admit, I used to hate it, but, then I started to try to give it a fair chance, and it's actually a good movie., I would definitely call it the worst of the Back to the Future movies, but, I wouldn't say it sucks at all. It's different, definitely, I think the ruyiner of it though is that female character. She annoys the crap out of me! I'm just fine with the Doc being in love, but, that chick is just plain annoying. I'm sure she's a great person in real life, i'm sure she's impossible to dislike, but, damn is her acting annoying!

I will say, another movie I really enjoy are the Mortal Kombat movies. Yes, even the 2nd one. I think the problems with those movies are stupid dialouge, and the movies were both just made too early. I think when the first came out, I think the 3rd Mortal Kombat game hadn't even come out yet. At that point, not alot was known about the Mortal Kombat world. We knew basic things like how Jax and Sonya knew eachother, Scorpion and Sub-Zero didn't like eachother, who the good and bad guys were, Johnny Cage was a jerk, etc., we didn't really know much else. As the later games have come out though, yeah, just about everybody's character is well known and explained. If you think about that, I think both movies are actually kind of good. Nothing that deserves to earn the movie of the year award or anything, but, at least something worth checking out you know?
One of my biggest complaints against the 2nd one is Shinnok, to me, he just seems like the most pointless thing in both movies. Really, Shao Khan would have been easily believable as the dude more powerful than Shang Tsung, throwing Shinnok in there just seemed so random and they made him seem stupid. Really, wouldn't you imagine that he's this psycho powerful dude? He just came across as this angry old dude that just liked to be mad. ALSO.............no Kintaro? Fail! I'm all for Motaro, he as a welcome appearance, but, no Kintaro just sucked! And my final complaint........and my biggest complaint.........Baraka. Good intro, but no more Baraka in less than a minute!? *repeated facepalms*

I preferred the movie's ending over the original's book, tbh. The action scenes were overly done, yes, but it kept a great deal of its atmosphere.
Also Nite Owl wailing on Ozymandias after Rorschach is killed was satisfying and still conveyed the feeling that Ozy still won, not to mention a nuclear detonation is a helluva lot more plausible than GIANT DEAD MONSTER MATERIALIZES
I enjoyed the Bucket List for what its worth, if only because it had one of the best endings I've seen.
