No, actually. I do not despise though, like, say, Aizen from Bleach.

FINE

Go look on Hulu. There's an "official" sub on there, so you can see the first episode for free no probs.

I'll post my thoughts tomorrow, I wanna re-warch some of the early episodes.

I would tell a newcomer that the show looks a lot better after the first part, and really picks up after that too story-wise, with actual interesting characters other than Kenshiro. After the first 10 episodes I wanted Kenshiro to find Shin already. I even skipped an episode here and there when it looked like filler. Still, what you see here is what you will keep getting. Loud, oversized, obnoxious bastards in mohawks getting slaughtered in the hundreds. Occasionally it is something other than mohawks. Often the nasty deaths Kenshiro hands out are comedic.

Also, everyone in the world loves Yuria, no exceptions.

Yeah Yuria's kind of a down point in the series and the last part of the first series gets a little tedious
Plus the whole Nanto bloodline part was wasted, there ain't enough female fighters, only Mamiya and that one assassin that used roses, and even then Mamiya was more tool-assisted (mind you very impressive use of weaponry at times, especially in Ken's Rage)
Hilariously for a little kid Lin manages to be more ballsy in later episodes. At one point she clobbers a mook over the head with a mace that's easily the size of her, and later would rather face death by walking over hot coals than be branded by Ken-Oh's mark.

This is easily one of the most violent series out there, but it does go very nicely with the atmosphere of a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Kinda lame that they really toned down Ken's tears, he's surprisingly compassionate for a guy that can easily take down an entire army. And a tank.

(also refreshing that it doesn't used GIANT EYES DESU DESU BIG HEAD anime proportions, the later movies look great while improving the original style)
I thought it was a shame about the Nanto bloodline thing and Yuria too. What, is compassion a martial art? We have 5 guys that can tear people apart with their bare hands, and then one who has the ability to be really nice. And for all she accomplished during all that time being "dead", she ends up as bait. I think it would have been better if he found Raoh in a pool of his own blood because Yuria just beat him. At least have her do something besides being in distress, again.
The violence is there, but apparently blood is a bunch of colors. I like to think it is because of the radiation.

I can't bring myself to watch this due to irrational bias. I don't know why but it seems like it is gonna suck. I should watch it just to spite my preconceived notions

FotNS is pretty decent, although it definitely suffers from having been made before the medium matured. I like how Kenshiro sort of just flies all over and jogs in place a lot.

he planted the seeds right next to each other instead of at least spacing them apart good going savior

It certainly has its faults, my biggest gripe being kinda common with many series at the time, a good hint of sexism. Aside from the Yuria plot mentioned above, the only two other notable female fighters in the first series is Mamiya and a female assassin who used some rose style and got axed in one episode.

The first episode of NEW Fist of the North Star is also pretty decent, although a little hard to follow (also has a bit of spoiling of a certain plot point near the end of the second series involving Raoh's son). Mediocre voice acting, Ken sounds badass. I need to remember to watch the rest.

Anyway I suppose I should pick somebody since at least a few people were kind enough to watch soooooooooo let's go Kil'Jaeden since A) he actually knows the series and the second point that isn't listed in the same format) I'm rather interested in your choice.

I have decided. I went through a bunch of options, but I decided to go with Martian Successor Nadesico. I am sure most here have not seen it.

I will hold off saying much until later, but it gets more complicated as it goes on.

wow im sorry this took so long schoolwork piled up and then i completely forgot

---

Anyway, I got the chance to watch this episode today. I have to say that it isn't really my cup of tea--pretty much all of the characters annoyed me and it didn't have anything that really drew me in [if I want a giant robot space anime there are billions, lmao].

granted it's an older anime and so it was probably pretty great at the time but in the context of now it was hard to get through the episode i am sorry to say :{(

[[also granted a lot of shows start off slow and pick up later, like you said it gets more complicated later... but you can usually tell whether or not it's something you will like from pretty early on, even if it isn't the greatest episode? if that makes sense]]

I have to ask, what made you choose this? When did you first watch it/what do you like about it/etc

Why? Because I was thinking of doing something running right now, but I decided that most of you would probably already be watching those or just not care. I picked this because I happened to think of it.

I first watched it years ago. What do I like about it? It is pretty much a parody of that anime genre, and of anime (particularly 70's ones) in general. It sort of goes back and forth between that and serious, but never goes too far toward either. Also, there really is not a lot of focus on giant robots. The ship is far more important. But by far the most important thing is a stereotypical 70's super robot show that the protagonist is obsessed with. Well, he becomes obsessed with it after meeting that other pilot anyway. It gets really out there when you find out more about the aliens attacking Earth(but that is a huge spoiler).

This is what I was originally going to use. Back when I posted, it was only in the middle, but it has aired completely now. Since no one else will post, I may as well post it.
