EPISODE-A-WEEK SUGGESTION AND DISCUSSION. EVERYONE WELCOME!

#1

Post by Apollo the Just » Wed Jan 30, 2013 8:36 pm

HEYY

So I asked peeps and there was interest and so we are doing this

Once a week, or about that length of time, someone will suggest exactly one episode from the series of their choosing for people to check out when they have the time. This is a good opportunity to get people to check out things you like, and to check out new things yourself. It is also a good opportunity to judge everybody else hardcore on their opinions and suggestions.

SO FIRST UP IS IRHP HE ALREADY STATED HIS CHOICE IN THE OTHER THREAD BUT WHY DONTCHA MAKE IT OFFICIAL AND WE CAN GET THIS PARTAY STARTEDDDD

[[One final note-- make sure it's an episode that doesn't rely too heavily on prior knowledge because the assumption is that not everyone has seen what you are showing. If necessary, you can give any relevant details that might be essential for understanding [like the tall guy killed the black guy's parents and so the ginger girl is mad or whatever]. Spoiler block if necessary but just try not to pick something too deep into complicated plot **** if you know what im sayin. OTHER THAN THAT HAVE AT IT WOO]]

Ruroni Kenshin, Episode 1. It is a bit different from most samurai anime, it reminds me of Trigun. Enjoy.

It does seem very much like Trigun with swords, which means I may have to watch the rest of the episodes.

man now i wanna watch the rest

I haven't seen Kenshin since it first came out and at the time I had no idea what was going on other than good guy vs bad guy plus swords. But I sure as hell recognized that theme song. Aww yis.

It's one of those series where you watch the first episode and you're like OH HELL YES I LOVE THIS GUY MAN I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL HE GETS TO THE FIRST ARC BOSS AND GETS THE EVERLOVING **** BEAT OUT OF HIM WITHIN AN INCH OF HIS LIFE AND THEN DRAMATICALLY OVERTURNS THE BATTLE AND SAVES THE DAY. Because I'm pretty sure that happens. It can't not happen. And I can't wait for it to.

also kenshin why are your eyes so uguu

I like Kenshin as a character. He's almost girly, but manages to still be a badass even without his inner demons coming out. His Yoda speech sorta bugs but whatever. He defies the standard shonen anime archetype.

The first episode is indicative of what the rest will be like. I would recommend watching Samurai X/Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal if you think you will like this series. It is a prequel of the series that lasts around 2 hours. It explains a lot about Kenshin that is hinted at in the TV series. Different tone and style though. You need no prior knowledge to watch it either.

The Trigun comparison does fit somewhat. you have a main character that is a killing machine, but is held back because he will not kill. The difference is that Kenshin willingly killed many people in the Bakumatsu, then retired from being an assassin, while in Trigun the main character is given this belief early in his life and tries to uphold it to a ridiculous degree.

Am I allowed in this? I do not see that every person here was an applicant in the old thread.

I liked it, but the female lead is annoying as hell. Yeah that's about it. Kenshin is a cool guy and yes he definitely reminds me of vash the stampede. But yeah, still really annoying chick.

^^ Of course you're allowed! Everyone is welcome. The other thread was just to gauge interest beforehand so there would be people to watch and discuss the first episode.

Anyone and everyone can watch and discuss episodes and of the people that comment, the chooser of the past week will pick the next person! And it'll be exciting.

It's addictive isn't it?

Has anybody else found themselves sympathizing with the villains? This and Yu Yu Hakusho made me sympathize with a lot of the enemies.

Drat and double-drat. I'll have to wait until I have more spare time before I can participate.

Well now that we've had our fill of samurai. IRHP care to choose the next person to pick from someone who responded in this thread? Just state your pick here and then we can get a new episode :{D

Whoops forgot to post

I can see this series being easily dismissed when you look at it at first, but Kenshin is a rather memorable character. The comparisons between him and Vash makes sense, I like both. Kinda wanna see the rest of both Ruroni and Trigun, if only Netflix carried them.

have you forgotten the times before netflix was a thing and we all had to find anime by google searching "watch _____ online free" and find the first, least-virusy, least-****ty quality site to watch it on

those skills remain useful to this day
