Magical Girl Series

#1

Post by Apollo the Just » Tue Jan 22, 2013 7:30 pm

AKA feel-good adorable happy rabu rabu series that are great for making you not sad unless they are Madoka but that's because Madoka is Madoka

so like

Who else here is willing to admit that they still watch and love series made for little girls with minimal plot and maximum sparkles because I SURE AS HELL DO.

I mention this because I have been re-watching Cardcaptor Sakura, which is still one of my favorite anime, to clear my brain of sads after having finished the infamous and aforementioned Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

Both are great.

One is siginificantly less depressing.

Anyway, I also watched Sailor Moon [of course] with a friend last year and enjoyed it probably much more than I should have, and have seen more of Tokyo Mew Mew than I care to publicly admit.

I just think the outfits are adorable and sometimes I want brainless pretty and cute things ok

anyone with me here

I wouldn't Call CCS directly brainless as Clamp have managed to produce quite the amount of Mind****ery.

Was some time ago i watched any Magical girl shows but i like them cause we don't always need to watch the Buff guys with the manly Weapons and deadly Muscles save the world!
Beep Boop absolutely not a bot!

During TML's game (in which my role was Sakura), I started watching CCS :3 And sometime when I get through that AND Hetalia AND this German sitcom I found I'll probably re-watch Sailor Moon.

The various Nanoha series, but those only partly fit the stereotype. Or what about Magoka Magica?

I remember Sailor Moon from way back, but my sister watched that, and I really only watched it when she had the TV. It was very rare to get much on TV because we had an antenna. I usually watched things like Dragon Ball or Batman.

^^^ dude yeah CLAMP is awesome, I was more referring to the other kind of ****ty anime that I've watched solely because they are cute and sparkly

ahahahahaa

also semi-related but isn't there a sailor moon reboot coming out soon? I'm gonna have to catch that.

I've watched Sailor Moon and Cardcaptors (both the English dubs from whatever terrible company did those), but mainly because they were on TV and I wanted to watch TV.

Madoka was the last magical girl anime I watched. Not because it was a tragic post-modern deconstruction (that was a fun discovery at around episode three), but because it'd be a happy-go-lucky show like Hidamari Sketch. I find if you're going for the happy-go-lucky, the slice of life genre is much better -- Hidamari Sketch, Azumanga Daioh, A Channel, Yuru Yuri, Kanamemo, etc. Magical girl anime has strife and conflict you'd expect in a coming-of-age allegory.

I was willing to give Pretty Cure at shot, but it was so insipid I had to stop after the first episode.

^ See, if I'm going for happy-go-lucky, then I might as well have a magical girl series because they also have really adorable outfits and sparkly transformation sequences.

and yeah of course there's gonna be coming-of-age angst but that's like the best part, slice-of-life has that but without the sparkles or the magic or the fabulous so really what is even the point

I'm not familiar with most anime mentioned here, but Card Captors and Sailor Moon are quality shows that I've seen some of. Sailor Moon is like DBZ for girls, so that's neat and Card Captors is like a mix of Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon kind of, but girlish.

I watched some CCs when I was younger, but couldn't bring myself to get into Sailor Moon. Maybe a DBZ crossover would change that, something like Cross Epoch.

I own a CCS card set.

*cough* I mean, I haven't watched those in years. Not since Sailor Moon and CCS were actually shown on morning television.
Nonsense, I have not yet begun to defile myself.
