Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods

The 14th film in the Dragon Ball series, and probably the best yet. Akira Toriyama is quite involved. I look forward to it. This movie is also directly stated as canon. Speaking of canon...

The debate is over; GT is and always has been canon. This film is set "between Z and GT."
"The global phenomenon Dragon Ball is being made into a movie using Toei Animation’s latest technology, consistently realized as a Toriyama work, with the original author Akira Toriyama himself deeply involve from the script stage for the first time. An episode from between the animation series “Z” and “GT”, or in other words from the blank decade between the end of the battle with Majin Buu in chapter 517 of the manga and chapter 518, will be depicted for the first time.

Such well-known and charming characters as Krillin, Piccolo, and Vegeta will all make an appearance. A new story in the official history of Dragon Ball is born, neither a spin-off nor a side-story, one that can be enjoyed by both children and parents, manga fans and anime fans."
Sweet.

Can't wait for the ultimate battle: Goku vs Ra.

I don't really like the design of the cat fighting Goku but I guess it does exude smugness which is appropiate I guess.

So that OVA released a few years back featuring Vegeta's brother that everyone said made GT non-canon is non-canon now?

How does this make GT canon?

And even if GT IS canon, Goku's STILL not the most powerful fictional character ever, not even close.

^^ Some other DBZ movies and OVAs are arguably canon. I'm not sure where that one goes.

^ Read the article. Also, I agree that he is not the strongest fictional character. He is, however, the strongest character of his type. He is not invincible. You don't need a special weapon to kill him. He has many vulnerabilities which make him contextually weak, so he can lose to anyone given the correct circumstances. He is very fair to fight against, he has very few tricks and relies on power and skill. However, no other canon character (i.e, no joke characters, fanon, ect.) can beat him in a fair fight.

I mean, Batman can't kick his ass, and Ichigo can't dice him. Now, yeah, sure, you could poison his food or go back in time and give his mom the day after pill, but who can beat him into the ground or fry him with an energy blast or chop him in half? Nobody without some unfair advantage like the characters they make up to fight him. Like Buu and Janemba, there must be some factor hindering him for there to be hope. Regeneration, matter manipulation, magic, dimensional control, you name it.

^ A genius. We need more character specfic spin-offs. Almost every DBZ character has potential.

But whoever butchered the animated adaptation is a dick.

How about a spin-off about how the Ginyu Force formed, and how they ended up working for Frieza.

^ I've always liked the Ginyu Force, with the exception of Recoome, and Ginyu has the most room for a spin-off. His signature body swap power can lead to some cool stories.
