I watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2 this past week. Made me want to read the books again!

Haven't been watching many movies lately due to making my own, but recent viewings of mine include Love Exposure and Fallen Angels.

------------------

I watched Love & Pop tonight. It's an interesting little experiment of a film. It's directed by Hideaki Anno, best known for creating Neon Genesis Evangelion. You can tell its his movie right away from the ostentatious visuals and the abundance of inner monologues. The classical music is somewhat of a giveaway, as well. I definitely recommend it to Evangelion fans. Everyone else... maybe?

With all due respect to Love Exposure, Linda Linda Linda just might be my favorite movie of the past ten years. One of these days I'll write a blog post dissecting each of the little aspects of the film that make it work so well.

Here's what I watched since the last time I posted:
Total Recall - The new one this time. Not quite as good as the old one. Really devoid of humor. But not a bad movie overall.
Wall-E - Pixar goodness.
The Dark Knight Rises - Saw it again. I think I like it better now than I did after the first watch.

I finally saw Ratatouille at my friend's house while I was in Chi-town. I also finally learned why "Chi-town" is hyphenated as I typed this post.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

The Last Picture Show. It was recommended to me because the director Peter Bogdanovich fell in love with Cybill Shepherd during filming and apparently he edited her scenes differently from everyone else's. I guess I kind of noticed that. The rest of the movie itself was pretty good, though.

Found myself re-watching the gleefully silly 2002 Hong Kong film My Wife is 18, a big guilty pleasure of mine. They made a sequel and it comes out soon! Hooray for more silly Charlene Choi + Ekin Cheng romance.

----------------------------------------------------------

Protege de la Rose Noire

Dumb. Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb. Dumb dumb. Dumb. This movie is gleefully and unapologetically dumb. So dumb. Dumb dumb dumb. Almost all Twins movies are dumb to a certain extent, but this one takes the cake. This is one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen.

That being said, it's miles more enjoyable than Twins Effect 2. Plus, it has an awesome action sequence where Gillian Chung imitates Jackie Chan in Snake in the Eagle's Shadow and Charlene Choi imitates Jackie Chan in Drunken Master and together they fight Donnie Yen's little sister. Too bad Donnie Yen himself couldn't come in and save this movie...

... wait, you mean Donnie Yen directed this movie?

I saw ParaNorman yesterday. I actually really liked it! I wasn't expecting to as much as I did. The villain was really, REALLY cool.

Halfway through The Room. It's so great I have to watch it in parts just to keep myself from being overwhelmed by its genius

Expect some statistics on this thread soon. I don't have too much to work with yet, but yeah. I might have to collect some data from other threads.

Recent viewings of mine:

Beyond Our Ken - Like Wong Kar-Wai lite. Good movie overall, disappointing ending.
Love & Pop - Yes, again. I think this is becoming one of my favorite movies. I can't tell you all enough how much I admire the free-form, ****-you-I'll-do-what-I-want style this movie was made in. Especially recommended for fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion (this movie was directed by Hideaki Anno.
The Wild Bunch - Damn good western. Not as good as a Leone, but pretty damn good.
Hidden Heroes - Lead actor Ronald Cheng is irritating as hell. If not for Charlene Choi's great performance as Mei-Ling, this would have been unwatchable. She also plays a series of robots trying to kill Ronald Cheng, but she doesn't fare quite as well in that role.

Hot Shots. An entertaining enough escape from the normal stress and annoyances in order to laugh my ass off.
