RAPIDLY CHANGING ANIME/CARTOON DISCUSSION, SEE THREAD FOR MORE SWEET DEETS

#1

Post by Apollo the Just » Mon Jul 23, 2012 5:30 am

So, the fanfic thread isn't going to be ALL Naruto and Pokemon. I'm gonna run out of hugely popular stuff eventually [strike]although don't worry Spongebob is next on the list[/strike]

SO, I thought a good way of helping those wishing to participate in the competition as well as spurring activity in this forum is to have a discussion in THIS thread about whatever series is being satirized in the fanfic thread! This way we can talk about a variety of things, and if you don't like a show you can wait a few days for the topic to change to something you're familiar with.

Right now, we are fanficing it up with Adventure Time. I think there may or may not have been another thread in this forum about that show, but OH WELL IT'S BURIED UNDER PONIES SO W/E

Anyone follow this show? I've seen all of it except for the past few episodes, and I REALLY love it. Obviously it has a slurry of fart jokes and stuff because it's technically a kids' show but it actually has heart and that's what keeps me watching more.

LET THE ADVENTURE TIME DISCUSSION COMMENCE UNTIL CHANGE OF TOPIC OCCURS

I have suggestions. How about a vote on what series is chosen next? Also, how about expanding the criteria to allow video game/manga themed fan fics? Some games like Chrono Trigger have anime/manga tie-ins, and vice-versa.

I've never actually watched Adventure Time apart from the flash cartoon that started the whole thing. I thought that was hilarious, so I've always considered watching the show, but other issues (AKA other TV shows) have been vying for my time these days.

I watched a few episodes for research. The later seasons seem a lot more fleshed out and quality than the first two seasons. The episodes I watched at least were full of "ROFLRANDOM" stuff that doesn't really turn my motor (e.g. Slumber Party Panic), but they become much more watchable as the season progresses. I liked that episode where a bear tries to steal Finn's identity.

Incidentally, I don't encounter Adventure Time a lot, but the latest time was during the PONIES The Anthology II, when they used that lemon earl who says "ONE MIIIIILION YEARS DUNGEON". I went ahead and watched that episode too. It was pretty funny.

You'll really like it's... mane.

I'd also like to do a bad fanfic of ponies. It's been what's on my mind these past months, so I'm pretty sure I can spin one up with a human crossing the barrier into Equestria and transforming into an OC alicorn.

Yeah AT is one of those shows that gets better as it goes along. The first season is pretty hard to go back to after the later ones, but since it keeps cranking out new episodes that's not really much of a problem. :{P

For reasons that should be obvious in light of the other topic, the genderbend episode is by far and wide my favorite.

AT got me to actually LOL on a few occasions, which is something even some of my favorite things don't-- usually I just smirk and move on.

[also how about this-- we talk about the current topic as we are now, and people make side comments about what kinds of topics theyd like to see-- like ponies have been mentioned-- and ill keep those in mind]

I'm the opposite. I'll watch Regular Show but it's not one of the shows I'll just splurge on when I'm bored, and AT /is/ one of those shows.

Honestly I'm not even sure WHY I like it as much as I do. I just do.

I think I like 'Regular Show' more than 'Adventure Time'. I really, really like how RS will take a relatively mundane sitcom premise and drive it completely off the rails into crazytown by the end of an episode. Think the writing's a little sharper, too. (Not to say AT is bad by any stretch, of course...)

It may be that I caught the wrong episodes of Regular Show to get me into it? Honestly the first two episodes of AT that I saw, I was rather unimpressed; I was also completely bored so I was like eh what the hell I'll watch more

but then by the third or fourth I was like no wait this is awesome and kept watching. I may have to watch more to really get into the other, as well.

feel free to continue talking about AT and RS [[omg can i just state that the latest episode of the former was adorable] but ponies is now added to the list of acceptable subjects

I know there's already a pony thread and right now we are in a break between seasons but I'm pretty sure people still have favorite ponies and episodes. ;{D

I tried to go without watching ponies for the whole summer so I'd be extra-excited for season 3, but then I accidentally watched an episode and that plan was shot to hell.

I have yet to actually see an episode of MLP, though I've been meaning to. I don't think I've heard of anyone who's seen it and doesn't like it.

Yeah, there are plenty of people who've seen it and don't really like it. Most of those people are cool about it though, and don't want/care to throw a wet blanket over everything.

Myself, I've been hanging around the /r/mylittlepony subreddit for my pony fix. [](/scootacheer)

I've been rewatching it recently because I have stayed plenty at a friend's house where I lived before we moved, and she has a little sister who gets bored and so we watch MLP together with her little sister who is like eight
