Went out to see The Avengers again last night. Not much to day about it that hasn't already been said.

Also watched Total Recall afterwards. Wasn't so much that the effects haven't aged well, but I was just never a big fan of 80s/90s stylistic portrayals of the future. I mean, they can travel to outer space and live on Mars, but they're all still watching 4:3 CRT TVs. Ugh.

Watched How to Train Your Dragon. Again, not much new to add about this movie other than how awesome it is. But I guess that's not really adding anything.

Forgot to mention that I watched one of my all time favorite movies, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tuesday night. This inspired a string of increasingly pretentious and not as good imitators, but that doesn't take away from how spectacular this one is.

I picked up Batman Begins and The Dark Knight since I figured I would need to at least catch up on the current trilogy before The Dark Knight Rises comes out soon. Great stuff, while I can't say it's better than the Tim Burton ones, these are very well done and extremely enjoyable. Still prefer Keaton as Batman, although there is no way to compare Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger as The Joker, not just because out of respect for Ledger's passing, but because both did such amazing jobs portraying a different Joker it's impossible to choose.

Mark Hamill is a close third on that.

Have watched Die Hard 2 and 3 consecutively in the past two days. I liked both, although 3 is definitely an altogether different sort of film apart from the first.

Sorry bomby can you bold these for me?
The Artist
The Muppets
Chronicle

airplane movies are dope

Update as of 7/16:
Forgot to mention that I watched Pearl Jam: Twenty on the airplane as well. Also I just watched a German dub of the film The Medallion with Jackie Chan. The movie wasn't good in English, and the experience wasn't better auf Deutsch.
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

I finally saw Cinema Paradiso last night. It was good. I'm not quite as big of a fan of it as most people seem to be, but I enjoyed it. Yeah, I don't have much more to say about it than that.

-------------------------

This morning, I watched a Hong Kong movie called The Death Curse, starring those damn Twins. It was a rather strange movie at first, and by the end, it was a very average not-very-good-but-not-very-bad-either movie. The DVD cost me 80 cents. I do not regret spending 80 cents on the DVD.

-------------------------

Watching Cinema Paradiso (which is similar in subject matter) and one Twins movie made me feel like watching Riley Ip's Just One Look, one of the best Hong Kong films of the past ten years. It's not without its flaws, but the atmosphere and emotions on display... trust me, it's real. Each time I watch it, I like it more and more. For the most part, it's a laid back slice of life piece. However, don't be fooled by the poster of the young stars smiling and laughing: there is heavy melancholy undercurrent beneath all of the light youth romance and kung fu movie nostalgia, and the final act is spectacularly tear-jerking.

Even if some of the actual events of the film aren't completely realistic, Yip's understanding of the human spirit is, which is why despite its flaws, Just One Look is absolutely wonderful. To me, at least. It's probably not a film to everyone's tastes, but it's worth a look. If not just one...

Okay, I apologize for that last part.

I watched The Artist with my girlfriend this weekend. I thought it was absolutely excellent. The dancing at the end was dope, yo. And the music was phenomenal.

Watched Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol a few days ago. Also watched some cheap, old, sci-fi comedy named Dark Star recently too.

I rewatched my de facto all time favorite film tonight, Wong Kar-Wai's Chungking Express. Every time I watch it, I notice something new about it. I fall in love with a new shot that I my eyes may have missed on a previous viewing.

More than anything tonight though, I watched this movie for inspiration rather than personal pleasure... though of course I got the latter out of this, too. As several of you are aware of, I'm working on my first feature-length film, and the pre-production process has been wearing away at me and slowly driving me crazy. Chungking Express is a great example of the style of film making that I like to do: fast, rough, and off the cuff (sorry for the rhyming). Just watching this film has given me back the energy that's been missing for the past month.

I watched Cast Away starring Tom Hanks and Helen Hunt. It was okay... but I was disappointed with the ending. :D
She lives in the clouds and talks to the birds...

Happiest faerie of VGF.

Got to see The Dark Knight Rises today. I thought it was really, really good. A great ending to a great trilogy.

Last watched Die Hard 4.0/Live Free or Die Hard, predictably. Entertaining, but definitely the odd-one-out of the films wherein Willis's character does not particularly interact with bureaucracy or plot twists. Also, they hacked the gibson.

I also saw The Dark Knight Rises yesterday. It was a very good movie, but after my first viewing I'd have to say that I enjoyed The Dark Knight more. I think I'm ultimately going to have to rewatch it a few times before I pass final judgment though.

I watched Easy A last night with a friend. It didn't live up to the hype I'd heard about it beforehand, and didn't quite meet my above average expectations, but for what it's worth, I did want it to go a bit longer than I thought it would. Not that I was expecting some grand masterpiece, but I guess my expectations were elevated for something more in the vein of Alexander Payne's Election. In particular, I guess I just wasn't a big fan of the decision to narrate the story through a webcam podcast.

^I loved Easy A. The awkward webcast aspect (particularly the wholly unnecessary chapter cards) was the only thing that really bugged me.

In the past week I've seen both The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises. Both quite fantastic in quite different ways, both exceeded my expectations, & both star Brits pretending to be New Yorkers.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^Well, technically one Brit was pretending to be a Gothamer.

Went on a little Christopher Nolan movie marathon today by watching Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and Inception back to back to back. Not much to say other than great, awesome, and awesome.

I watched ****in' Love Exposure again Tuesday night. Seriously, I can't recommend this film highly enough. If you can stomach the visceral content, you're in for the ride of a lifetime.

The Legend of the Fall

One of the best films I've ever seen.
