Game of Thrones/Song of Fire and Ice
So who's been watching the HBO adaptation? SD and I got ahold of the first season, and so far it's been a pretty good version. It's a bit weird to see Renly
portrayed as aghast at the site of blood and overtly homosexual
- although not surprising considering the heavy emphasis on sexual relations in the series. I do miss the narration of the books.
I expect this to be a hell of a lot easier to follow, as that Lannisters are portrayed as slightly more sympathetic characters when in the flesh. I actually became pretty frustrated by Martin - what with the books for ****ting on my favorite characters about as often as possible. I have to admit that I took a very long break from the book series after the 3rd book, simply because the irresolution of conflicts seemed more than prolonged while reading the novels back to back (rather than many months apart, as they were written).
If you're watching, or have read the series, who's your favorite character? Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow are my frontrunners, which I'm sure is shared by many.

IT'S A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE YOU PLEBE
also renly is
totally gay in the books it's just not as noticable
also the 3rd book is the best book hands down feast for crows and a dance with dragons can both go away forever
i should probably catch the 2nd episode of season 2 somewhere since the free hbo weekend doesn't extend forever...

I finished the first two books last summer, and have yet to start reading the third for this exact same reason. There are so few characters that are actually likable, and all of those characters basically get proper ****ed at every single possible moment. It's extremely aggravating and not very fun to read.Cosmonautical wrote:I actually became pretty frustrated by Martin - what with the books for ****ting on my favorite characters about as often as possible. And Tyrion and Jon Snow are the best characters, there really is no doubt about that.

Yeah, I know it is, my brain just automatically switches the two back because for some reason I guess I remember Pat Benatar or that Tecmo game.Rainbow Dash wrote:IT'S A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE YOU PLEBE
And he seemed flamboyant, just not like overtly so, like I said. It doesn't change much, anyway.
The show is super great, the first three books are super great, the most recent two are grrm evidence of grrm slowy contracting alzheimers...
Tyrion is basically the best character and the show version is even better. Slap Joffery every day.
Most of the actors in the show are REALLY ****ing good too, like wow.
Gay as heck Renly owns, book renly basically gets zero screentime and didn't really have any characterization except better then stannis, smug prick.

If I could make a ringtone of Joffrey getting slapped, I would. I never discovered the books until the HBO adaptation had started, so I'm just now starting to get into them. I've loved the series, but didn't get to see the whole thing until it came out on DVD (no HBO access -_-) I'm not sure when I'll be able to watch the second season, but hopefully, it'll be soon. I'm hooked.
Also... the Golden Crown was amazing.

I accidentally read the back of book 5 instead of book 4-part-2 (the real book 5, I guess), and had the story spoiled for me. What takes place in the middle of 4-part-2 is no less devastating. I had to stop reading in frustration. Martin is a sadist.

I agree to some extent, although I haven't read more since putting it down. Too many things vying for time!
And it's so disappointing to reach the end of the existing episodes of a series. I haven't watched past Episode 2 of Season 2, but I think I'll wait until I can gorge some more on several.

I finished book 5 last night. I totally agree that it sucks how Martin sticks the reader on Team Stark and then every plot development works against them.
I actually read the bonus book four chapter at the end of book 3 before the rest of because I was new to Kindle and that's how my wife sent me the book.
