I'll be giving it a shot. Thursdays are looking packed with shows I want to watch between this, Futurama, and So You Think You Can Dance. Yay DVR.

I taped it. I'm looking forward to watching it, I just hope it doesn't disappoint. It's a clever, creative premise.

Very nice first episode. I'll be interested to see how the show holds up now that the premise is established.

Okay, I watched the first episode. Not exactly what I was expecting, but I cracked up in a few places. I definitely was whispering "WTF" to myself the whole time, but over all (I think) I liked it. I'm curious to see where it goes.

The promos have me unsure, I'll have to see this sometime. It sounds like an interesting premise.

I'm amused by how much money US networks spend remaking series because people can't stand accents there.

Wilfred has an accent. The leads in this show really work well, though.

I think it's more they are counting on making money. The Office, anyone?

They actually got the guy who plays the dog in the Aussie version to play the same role in the US remake.

Wouldn't it be much cheaper for the network to license the original version, instead of spending millions on doing a remake? They'd still get the ad revenue either way.

^BBC America holds the US broadcasting rights to the original Office, & as long as the franchise remains popular, I don't see them sharing that anytime soon.
Besides, past episode 1, the American Office is a wholly different beast anyway.
(Ricky Gervais certainly doesn't object either; he's also licensed Office adaptations to France, Germany, Quebec, Chile, Israel, & Brazil, with Chinese & Swedish versions on the way as well.)

You also forget that the original Office only has 13 episodes; stateside, that's about half a season. Networks make more money on new episodes than they do on reruns (the ad rate is lower on reruns, because the ratings are typically lower).

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I'm not just speaking about the Office, but stateside remakes in general. Skins, Coupling, Wilfred, and others ...

Well, the US versions of Skins & Coupling both flopped miserably, so you may have something there. But, again, BBC America gets first dibs on most British imports, so it's not like the networks doing the remakes really have the option of just licensing the original show.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

The first episode is being shown in the UK this Tuesday. I've always liked Elijah Wood so I'm looking forward to it.

Ricky Gervais was really just looking to start a huge franchise with The Office. There's many more versions than just the UK and US versions.
