I think Sayaka should've thought of a better wish than the one she did. She just wants to heal that one guy, but why not wish for a more generic "healing touch" sort of ability? Why not wish for a lifetime supply of panacea? That sort of short-sighted thinking keeps bugging me. It puts me in the awkward position of saying that I would've made a better magical girl. =\

My mouth is open, and I can't close my mouth. It's broken now. Everyone at work is staring at me. Thanks.

Ace Mercury does sound like a good magical girl name.

BTW, I am also a witch.
Just watched episode 6; does this Mami can get resurrected? As long as they find her soul gem, can't they just find a new body?
^
I don't think so. Her soul gem was 'on' her head, so it too probably got devoured and digested. Then there's the fact that Charlotte exploded upon defeat, and the fact that we saw Mami's chewed-up remains...Yeah, I think it's safe to say her soul gem is long gone.
My friend just sent me this small Flash game, fresh from the isle of moonspeak:
THROW THE GEM (watch episode 6 first for best results)

Hah, good stuff.

While we're sharing things, here's a comic I found on /a/. And here's one with...tiny text.

Ooh boy. This doesn't look like it's going to end well for Sayaka.
edit: wait, that implies it looked good before. Things look worse now.
Those Grief Seeds look an awful lot like soul gems. But completely black instead of bright. I think, if a soul gem goes black, the magical girl becomes a witch. Meaning that they are basically in a cycle of having Kyuubei take out their souls, killing former magical girls and taking their souls for power, and letting Kyuubei eat what's left. So maybe the whole thing is just to feed whatever kind of creature Kyuubei is, and all the stuff about protecting people is a lie. With this, it would not be surprising.
So, I think we're all on the same page re: QB is evil. Who knows, Shaft might surprise us. I mean, we all thought Mami was evil. (Well, maybe she's still evil.)

In other news, I discovered a MadoMagi wiki. Source for all things nitpicky. For example: apples. And, man, Kyouko can eat apples like a mofo.

Well, no one likes the little weasel much at this point. I thought he was creepy from the beginning. Not sure why anyone would think Mami was evil though.

You guys got me interested in this series with this topic.
It seems to be a very dark deconstruction of the usual themes.

The wiki says it's only gonna be 12 episodes long? That doesn't leave much time for any sort of happy ending. (not that I was expecting one.)

(◕‿‿◕) Boku to keiyakusite, mahou shoujo ni natte hoshiinda

Just watched episode 8. Anyone else think this is just getting better and better?

Also, my d/l had a commercial with Japanese businessmen with suitcases navigating a military obstacle course. That was fun too.

Had a feeling this was the case...
Witches are just magical girls who's souls have become corrupted. Familiars are small fragments of them that become witches themselves when they create more sorrow, or perhaps once they steal a soul for themselves. Like Kil'jaeden said, Kyuubei creates them as a food source, but what is he really planning? Also, it would appear that we've got a time traveler now. Perhaps the dream at the begining of the story was actually a memory of a different timeline?

I kinda expected the 'magical girl->witch' thing, but Kyubey's line at the end of the episode is still chilling. I didn't entirely expect timetraveling howver, even after reading some theories.
(kinda NSFW)
It's kind of sad when that is possibly the happiest moment of the episode.
...but then Kyubey had to come back and eat his own corpse.

I'm not really getting the significance of his title as "incubator". Maybe the soul gems look kind of like eggs, and he incubates them into witches? Or perhaps something linked to the classical incubus demon type in Western mythology?

Sayaka's going through huge character development right now, and I think we know more about her as a character than Madoka. Really, what do we know about Madoka? She's supposed to be a genius magical girl, but she's a less-than-average normal girl; she's insecure and drags her heels more than Hamlet.

Anyways, I liked it when Homura finally broke her stony face and started crying in front of Madoka. And then she said "No, you are the important one." And then she was a time-traveller.
