Okay, I just read through it all. Isolated the problem.
The problem is always, during the battle, someone will do something that causes someone to say, "What? That's how we're doing this? I didn't know it was going to be like this... It shouldn't be like this."
Now that kind of separates judged tourny battles from personal challenges. I personally think this shouldn't be a problem in personal battles if before your match you have a simple "Okay how we gun' do dis?" conversation and make sure you're both on the same page before you start.
Yeah, that's all blah blah blah because the arguments arise from tournaments, right? At least the recent ones anyway. I'm actually new to the tournament style of doing things, but I do have a very serious suggestion:
Less fighters, more judges.
seriously
And the judges need to be serious about actually reducing your score for improper behavior. If there's only two or three judges, anyone can argue with them, but what if there are eight guys telling you you're wrong?
Don't bother rounding up 16 people, just get 4 or 8 guys who won't flake out. And then have a panel of about 13 judges who will at least discuss among themselves who the winner is.
Flaking out. Man, if life gets in the way and you come in here and tell us you gotta back off, I understand. But it's hard to respect someone who wordlessly magi-poofs out of the universe. I am nice, though, and I have to give them the benefit of the doubt and think that they either died, were hospitalized, kidnapped and held for ransom, or all their computers blew up. Or maybe they completely forgot VGF existed, because it doesn't take very long to have the decency to type 15 words and tell us you gotta drop out for whatever reason and post them.
I will strive to be, and I hope all of you will come to know me as, a dependable Gunjineer.
Galefore says we need to have fun, while someone else may say not too take it too seriously.
Well, I'm ready to have some serious fun.
You know why people always seem to chase rabbit trails in these discussions when speaking their mind? I just noticed how when you're typing and giving your strong opinion that's it's easy to just keep typing and you might as well give you're opinion on EVERYTHIIIIIIIIING because you're already in the mood to give your opinion. So... that's the answer...
But of course! The age-old question! Will people get all riled up and then as soon as we leave this topic nobody incorporates anything anyone mentioned in the discussion?!?!?!?!
'cuz that would SUCK. I recommend making close friendships with each other so as to have someone willing to hold us to our decisions. Long live the Gunjin Faithful. Let's make this place work.
Just listening to myself I think I sound like a total idiot right now. But I don't care, I'm posting it anyway...
*****.

Man, Oceansford is my baby. We gotta nurse it back to health. Traveller and I are ready.

I agree on the part about less contestants, and more dependable ones. These thrice-cursed flakes need to be banned from even entering tournaments; they make it hard to do anything.
On the other hand, dismissing out of hand what has been discussed of improving things as just 'useless bickering' and considering any discussion outside of dopey 'have fun' stuff as stupid is, well, stupid.
It is universal to everywhere I have gone that these sort of discussions come up when there is a problem. Ignoring these discussions allows the problem (and these discussions) to continue, but there's always a kernel of truth to be found. Which, if anyone bothered to care about it, is right here, in what Traveler said. But they don't, so, forget it, let's continue.
But I don't mind. It is our loss when these things are ignored; I am open to watching many more things fail. I once waited five years for someone else similarly dead-set on continuing their failures to realize their mistake...
I can wait five more for the Gunjin if I have to.
So, onward! We need the judges to judge this round. If I lose, then perhaps a blow has been struck against the nefarious cheezemoding I hated; on the other hand, if I win, then I can continue to RELEASE THE BOGUS!!!!

^^^Incorrect. You brought two characters and one hundred faceless zombie goons. Of course, goons are necessary for a war topic. You will notice that I brought 14,750 of them.
That topic will be revived, but this tournament must be concluded first. I would much rather see it through to the end than have yet another dead topic.

Seriously, Metal Man? Seriously? Is it just in your blood to attempt to "revolutionize" everything you touch? It's a goddamn internet forum. We are supposed to be having fun, not having these ridiculous discussions about "problems" it has. That makes us look self-important and sad and it's making me angry.
Look, I'm not going to debate "our problems" with you. You've clearly decided in your mind that there's some horrible evil under the surface that only you know how to save. What I will say is this: Do not, do not, EVER come at me with your bitching in that snide, passive aggressive way ever again. If you want to call me out, do it by name so I can explain what the **** I'm talking about, since you clearly aren't quite listening. Don't just go "authority figure wants to fail so i will wait for i am salvation". Seriously, man. I'm not pissed at you, but it's really annoying. So hear me out before you say anything else, and when you respond, please, please try to actually heed my words:
I am 100% correct. The Gunjin has traded "fun" for a mindless sense of self-importance, which is the cancer that ****ing killed it (aside from lack of interest, which also has its roots in people not having any sort of joy in these topics anymore). Since you seem to have forgotten what fun even is (it's that wide-eyed sense of wonderment and joy you're supposed to be feeling when you participate in these things), you're dismissing my argument. I don't like that. Quit it.
For damn near 4 years I've been a mod here. In the first two years of that tenure, there was a lot of activity. Sure, it wasn't the incredible place it was back before I even joined, but something had re-sparked the sense of joy that battlers took in just participating in a good old-fashioned battle. Then, some time in late 2008, everyone decided we had too many problems and just up and left. Most of them have lives, which is why they can't dedicate time to this forum. Others just moved on. But it wasn't due to any one "problem", because topics have been running smoothly up until recently. And what killed these topics? Lack. Of. Interest. As well, it was a lack of the same level of enjoyment everyone used to take in them. It's sad, but it happened. We have maybe 5 or 6 people left here who still give a **** about this forum. Sad, but true. It was this way back in '06, when I led my own "revolution" and pretty much attempted a forced renewal of interest. Somehow it worked, and I've been mod ever since. I believe I have an idea of how to keep this place running, dude, because I've done it before.
So if you want the Gunjin to live again, bitching at me will not do a goddamn thing. Go out and make topics. Go and advertise. Go and raise some interest. That's what I did, and for all intents and purposes it worked. This place may be dormant right now, but if you crave revolution so badly, do something. I'll support it. Dude, MM, I have nothing against you, but I really hate it when somebody thinks they can just call me out like that and everything will just get better. Nothing changes unless somebody does something, and trust me, if I had the time to lead the one-man revival I attempted back in 2006 again (where I spent literally all day every day advertising the Gunjin), I would. I've done what I had to do, but life right now is being a bitch and I've got no time. What I can do is be a moderator, and help you bring your ideas to life. That's my job, and it will be my job until I quit. So try coming up with some ideas. Because, like I said, THESE DISCUSSIONS ARE POINTLESS.
EDIT: Oh, and apologies for the tone I took in those first two paragraphs. I was legitimately angry for a moment there. I really, really don't want (and don't have time for) one of those little internet debates that seem popular around these parts, so if you respond, don't be argumentative. I hate arguing. Seriously. Just accept my point, and take it or leave it.
Hell, actually, unless you have something constructive to add, don't respond to this. Just go on with the tournament stuff. I'll get to reading Traveler v Metal Man soon, and the winner of that goes on to battle Zaidon for Champeeeeen status, I s'pose.
Enjoy your day, fellers. You successfully ruffled my usually unruff'lable feathers.

There is no debate; just you putting your fingers in your ears and screaming loudly whenever I disagree with you on that one subject. Therefore I have no response; since it is clear I might get banned for daring to disagree about imaginary battles typed on a message board, and that's just a bit too much mindless self-importance going on for me to get involved in.
About time you began judging the battle, anyway. For in truth, my battle is my 'constructive' argument; you will find that it and how you rule will determine what your response to my implied arguments are there. Turn your face away from my out of battle words, for it is clear they are like harpoons...
And while there are some people I do wish to harpoon to death, you aren't one of them.
Since my intent is to help; but I know where it is not wanted when I see it.
And I guess it's sort of silly, anyway. I don't believe my ideas would magically save the Gunjin; so, that, combined with how the Gunjin is today, makes it sort of useless. Oh well. I said my piece, and my piece it shall remain. And if it ever comes up again, I'll just link it and say "Ditto" and continue on.

^^I suppose that counts as a time caller post then?
*looks at own post and fact that there has been no noticeable calling of time before said post, but only a warning of calling time soon*
D:
I suppose you could argue that I shouldn't have put off posting until when I did, but as far as I know, I was still in the rules.
*goes back a page to make sure*
Yup, you in fact made a warning of "post now or DIE" in the post just above mine...
I suppose a 3 way championship match would be unorthodox and potentially problematic, though definitely interesting...
A semi-final round of one-on-one followed by a final of one-on-one might be anticlimactic, maybe it wouldn't though. Course, any of the 3 remaining fighters (all known for being great) taking on some random guy who posted at the last second and by chance found his way to the finals for a final bout seems kinda like it would be somewhat anticlimactic. ('Course if that's how it would go, I could use that time to get back into gunjineer mode and get alot of the life obstructions like big school things and such out of the way...)
Actually, now that I look, I am the only OMEGA left....
Unless that wasn't a time-caller post and someone else in OMEGA decides to post...
...or if I somehow do qualify for disqualification because of some obscure ultra-fine print sub-clause of a contract that a family member of someone-I-know's best friend signed one day long ago while getting car insurance says I do.

^^^Yeah, MM, I'm sorry I freaked there for a second. I stand by what I said, but I shouldn't have been so harsh about it. Bad vibes, man. It's cool, though. Like I said, I shall read your battle and yaddayaddayadda.
^Yeah, I dunno what to do about that. I could have you battle Zaidon or something, but that wouldn't make any sense. I suppose you just sort of came in too late after all.
Or maybe we could consider a three-way Championship...
I dunno, dudes. What do you think, o people of the Battlefield?

It's quite simple if you ask me. Very simple. So simple it hurts. We proceed as normal
ALPHA:
Mushi vs. Zaidon Winner Zaidon
Metal Man vs. A Traveler Winner, I dunno, I'm not the judges.
OMEGA:
Repster vs. Scripture Winner Repster
Weegee vs. Guildmaster Winner Guildmaster.
I mean really we had 3 no shows, they get disqualified, and we move on. Unless I missed something in the time laps where the nature of the battlefield was called into question and my power supply died and I got, MORE POWER!

When all run like the cowards they are.
I shall stand in the inferno, and fight until I am consumed

I brought 4,900 faceless zombie goons and packed away I have a list of 100 Pharoah names for my mummies, each of which, when there is a need for another to be introduced, I will give unique fighting styles and battle strategies. When you say "two characters" I at first assume you mean Cyrus and Jarik. You would possibly be correct if you were referring to Imhotep and Jarik. It is actually a flaw on my part to assume everyone knows who the mighty Imhotep is even though you probably do.
I most definitely gave descriptions already of Sanakht, Tefnakht, and Kanerfertemre. I left out details of clothing, but I can go into more detail if that will cause you to consider them "characters".
So I reiterate. I brought 100.

How? He unloaded the entirety of his life force in a suicide attack, and, as I said in my post, the Alastor was all that remained.Zaidon wrote:I think it's pretty obvious who wins in Metal Man vs. Traveler.
Tazy's character is the only one left.
I think Metal Man also shot him in the face with a revolver, but it appears that element of his attack was removed later via edit. Unclear on that one.
