Moar Battle

ONE battle (me in the tourrney of Red Lions) is not enough to sate my recent hunger for Gunjintude. So, this is an open battle. COME TO ME.
-----------------
The Oldiviam Swamp was a dangerous and bizarre place. By normal swamp terms, it was not very bad--waters not too deep, and really not many insects. There were even frequent patches of decently solid, yet a bit muddy, land. It seemed like it was made for convenience of trespassers.

However, there was something much more there. It was infested with many different creatures, of many different shapes sizes, and dispositions. It ranged from tiny, scuttling crablike things and adorable little salamanders, to elephant-sized beasts that seemed to be made of rot. This was a fertile ground for sorcerers, elemental wizards, and druids who wished to see some of the dark aspects of nature. The Oldiviam also held a little bit of fame as a treacherous and interesting battleground for hardened warriors looking for a new experience.

A warrior such as Johannes Engelbrecht, who at the moment was moving through the swamp, sometimes hopping from sandbar to sandbar, sometimes just trudging straight through the murk-his feet and boots were tough enough to be unaffected.

The old man carried his gigantic steel sword, the Maschinesabel, in his right hand- it and his hand were stained with ichor from a recent scuffle he had with a large frog-beast. His trenchcoat and pants had been stained a bit too with black bile, but he minded none. It in fact made him look a bit more vicious, having destoyed a beast that weighed a ton without expencing much effort. His cold blue eyes darted around for any other would-be attackers.

And not just mutant frog-beasts and crocodiles with an extra mouth. No, he had heard from a friend in these parts that there was a competent warrior around here who would be walking through the Oldiviam soon. and Johannes, a first time visitor to the Swamp, expected this to be a very, very interesting fight..

[ooc]I hope I portrayed everything correctly, tell me if I didn't.[/ooc]

During his search for through this God-forsaken swamp, Johannes had come upon a small clearing in a almost perfect circular shape. It couldn't have been much more than ten feet in diameter. It had a hump in the center, a small grassy hill, about 3 feet up at its peak, and about 3 feet in width. The sun shone directly upon it, somehow finding its way into this abyss of a swampland, there to offer hope to weary travellers. This however was not the case for Johannes. All such a thing did was make him more visible to any potential predators or other sorts of foes - not that it mattered much, Johannes would just dispatch them as he did the others earlier. Even if this was true though, it wasn't good to make a habit of daring any of your potential life-enders to hurry up with your destiny, and the old man knew this well, if not from his own experiences than from the experiences of others. He decided to simply walk his way around the hill, near the tree line. While doing this, Johannes stumbled upon a third separate path from the well used ones that were leading out of the clearing. It was well hidden by bushes, trees, and other sorts of greenery, but for one of Johannes's height and wisdom, it was much easier to find. Just as he took his first step onto the path, he heard something that shouldn't have been there. It rang out over the buzzing of insects, the croaking of reptiles, and the rustling of the wind over leaves. It was a low vibration, like that of a stringed instrument. A thing as this would not have been here on its own. It would've had to have been brought here by human hands. And not many humans dared come so deep into such a treaturous place. No, this was the work of someone either extremely brave, fairly mighty, or a combination of the two. This had to be the rumored warrior.

The tone seemed close, almost directly ahead in fact. Johannes decided to run the path through and he knew he would eventually come upon the mysterious musician. The person most likely knew he was there from the sound of his previous quarrel with the frog beast and yet the notes continued. A series of high pitched wailing noises singing a bittersweet tune flooded the area as Johannes was whipped in the face by several low hanging tree limbs, cobwebs, vines, etc. It wasn't drowned out by the sound of Johannes's heavy breathing, his pulse racing, the splashing of waterry muck against the large man's boots, the wind in his firey beard, nor by the ringing and clinking of his several gadgets and tools under his rather heavy coat. Nothing could make a stronger noise than this instrument for Johannes at this moment. He was determined to find this sound's source, and then to challenge it the musician who controlled it.

"There!"

He could see, up ahead of himself, was another grassy opening with another hill. Right then when he stepped out into the warm sunlight, he should've been hearing the melody and meeting its maker, and yet, right then with that last, heavy step into the space, the sound stopped, and was replaced by a scream. A scream of pain. A scream of death. There, slightly to the left, was the humongous, leathery body of a 15 foot tall, bipedal reptile, crouched over s bloody, human like corpse. Munching almost half of it down in one gulp. This creature had taken away the challenge Johannes had been searching all day for. 1) That pissed him off, alot. 2) That meant that this creature was that much more of a challenge.
The creature heard the sword-wielding old man, and turned to face him. Streams of light stroked its dark (nearly black) green, rippling skin. The animal's most distinct feature would no doubt be its giant head, probably measuring about four to six feet wide, and at lt least a foot longer. To balance its own weight was a gigantic tail, adding a good seven to nine feet to its length. Attached to its muscular body was a pair of small, clawed arms. Considerring their size they actually seemed rather strong. A bit lower down the reptile's body, and you'd reach the animal's long, muscular, and thick, bird-like legs, giving it an also bird-like posture. It's feet resembled a chicken's very much in shape, three big black-clawed toes on each foot, taking up at least half the space given for them. It's weight was emmense, and it was easily able to leave an imprint in any form of ground, not just muddy swamp lands.

This creature couldn't have been entirely natural though, could it? It seemed cold and soulless. It's eyes were a pale crimson color that at times might've seemed to glow. Natural or not, this creature had eyed its new prey, a large, tough meated 600 year old man with a sword. The reptile's broad, sharp teeth were ready, the saliva streaming off of them and out of its huge mouth as it gave off a long roar as loud and booming as a clap of thunder. It seemed as if it could have echoed throught the universe itself. It would gave terrified most people down to their very souls...

What would Johannes do against such a monstrosity?

[ooc]In other words; Roar motha ****er. ROAR

OoC: yeah, that was good. Except you doubled Johannes' age XD.

Ahhhh, yes. This would be good.

The beast made a lunge for Johannes, attempting to bite his head off. he ducked, and rolled between the beast's legs, and landed at the base of a tree. The tyrannosaur turned around, and its enormous tail cracked several successive trees in half as it turned around. Johannes was low enough to the ground, and the color of his clothes blended in enough, to be unnoticed by the reptile. For now, at least.

Johannes had many friends in academia, many of them scientists, and he had heard about dinosaurs. He knew, from the latest research, that the Tyrannosaurus Rex had poor vision, moved quickly, had useless arms, and had incredible bite strength. But they had never mentioned anything about crimson eyes that radiated malice, or about the vague sense of evil that Johannes was getting here. But they were scientists, they weren't into the mystical dimensions of their work.

Johannes, however, was. He had met, before, animals with tainted souls; he had seen creatures with eldritch minds and beasts that were possessed. This definitely reminded him of them. The dinosaur peered around for its prey, growling deeply. The fighters' eyes met.

At first, the saurian began to lunge. Then it saw that Johannes was glaring as well, and was taken aback. His pale blue Nordic eyes seemed to probe into the monster's mind with an unparelleled intensity. Johannes had picked up this trick from a Hoodoo man deep in the delta mucklands.

Show me, his eyes seemed to say. Show me the depths of your soul. Johannes' eyes seemed to grow, they seemed to blaze, and the dinosaur was being shaken to the core as Johannes probed and probed and probed. Then it seemed to think, WAIT, I'M A VICIOUS PREDATOR, QUIT MESSING AROUND and completed the lunge it started, jaws wide.

Johannes, his trance suddenly broken, barely managed to dodge its maw, and was hit in the side with its foot as it trampled through the muck. the foot had torn through his coat (including the bulletproof lining), and Johannes' skin was scratched deeply. As the monster prepared to reverse direction and charge again, the old man removed a grenade from his coat, took out the clip, and lobbed it at the head. the explosion was the first thing it saw as it turned around.

He quickly put a salve on his wound, and rolled into the water, just eyes and nose above the surface. He reflected on what he had seen in those crimson eyes- he had seen a will for pure savagery. but not just your typical carnivore's hunting urge. it was savagery and killing in its finest form. Not even in the most frenzied berserker or enraged dragon had Johannes sensed an urge to kill so intense. This beast, he decided, was an incarnation: it was Predation, taking the form of one of history's best killers.
