I saw the new 'Wolfman' today. It was okay. They nailed the atmosphere, managed some impressive effects, and got some really good performances out of the principal cast; but the story and pacing were kind of lacklustre, and the fight scene at the end was really, really stupid.

District 9. Part one of post-09 watching. On my list right now are Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moon, Inglorious Basterds, The Blind Side, The Hurt Locker, An Education, Up in the Air, Zombieland, Coraline, probably a few more.

So far last year's top 5:

1. Up
2. (500) Days of Summer
3. Star Trek
4. District 9
5. Avatar
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

The Art Museum by the Zoo - An entertaining little romance that has a couple revealing technical flaws, but is overall a very nice film.

Last Year's Top 5 (for me):

1. Mother (Bong Joon-Ho)
2. Inglourious Basterds (Quentin Tarantino)
3. Thirst (Park Chan-Wook)
4. Up (one of those Pixar guys whose name I can never remember)
5. The Hurt Locker (Kathryn Bigelow)

Watched a Korean Action movie yesterday.

The American title is Warrior , but that narrows the list down of movies it might have been by a factor of maybe, 2?

I'm assuming it was probably Musa, which was actually the first Korean film I ever saw, though I didn't really get into Korean cinema super-hardcore until I saw Park Chan-Wook's Lady Vengeance and Bong Joon-Ho's Memories of Murder about a half a year later, both of which are still two of my favorite Korean films ever.

I saw Zombieland today on the way home from Nashville, and it was really good. Just for good measure, I watched Shaun of the Dead directly after, and of course I still prefer Shaun. Even so, Zombieland had a completely separate charm and I really enjoyed the Bill Murray cameo.

Zombieland - 9/10
Shaun of the Dead - 10/10

^Throw Fido in with those two, and you've got the holy trinity of zombie comedies.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox was, for lack of a better term, fantastic.

Just watched How to Train Your Dragon as well.
A must for any D&D nerd.

Also, the 3D was pretty good, it works even if you have poor eyesight.

People post too slowly in this topic. WATCH MOVIES MOAR

Anyway, so I saw Clash of the Titans yesterday. It was okay, certainly kept me entertained for one and a half hours. I enjoyed their version of Hades, though I would have liked to have seen more interaction with the other gods. Overall, 6.5/10

Earlier today I watched the 2003 version of Zatoichi, directed by Takeshi Kitano. Really liked it. The action scenes were great, and Kitano's got a gift for atmosphere. The pace was disorienting at first, but I got used to it quickly enough to keep it from affecting me too badly. My only issue was the soundtrack. Some of it was great, some of it just didn't sit well with me, probably just because it wasn't the type of soundtrack I as an American viewer would associate with an action film, and that's my fault, not theirs. But otherwise, a fine film, and a great piece to fuel my obsession with Samurai movies. 9.5/10

Wasn't the last movie I saw, but I want to mention two movies that I saw in the past two weeks and give my take on them.

As you can see by my recent watchings of V for Vendetta, Fight Club, and Pulp Fiction, my friends and I enjoy movies on the action-oriented side with some nice stylized violence.

So naturally we watched The Boondock Saints and The Boondock Saints II. I'd have to say that I was kind of underwhelmed after hearing how good it was from multiple sources. I mean the violence was nice and stylized (OMG SLOW MO!) and the dialogue was nice and cussy (Tarantino level, probably more than that), but some parts were kind of boring. I didn't really care for the story too much (especiallly in the second one with all the **** between the two old men). Some scenes were completely unnecessary (like in the second film, a scene in seventies cop show style with even more over-the-top action, even though it was meant to be funny or something I don't know it was just another slow-mo fest).

The movies weren't bad but I was expecting much better. Though "Who ordered the whupass fajitas?" has entered my vocabulary. Oh and Willem Dafoe was delightfully over-the-top in a not-really-delightfully over-the-top movie. THERE WAS A FIREFIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

That's because The Boondock Saints kind of sucks. Don't believe the hype.

Also, the last film I watched was The River. The Tsai Ming-Liang one. It was good. Oh, also a Korean film called White Nights, which kind of sucked, though I got to see Son Ye-Jin bare naked, so I guess that part was worth it.
