Sega Announces Sonic Classic Collection

Sega Announces Sonic Classic Collection
If you haven't had your fill of classic Sonic the Hedgehog on every other platform, then Sega has you covered. The publisher has announced that they will once again be bundling together their mascot's classic adventures, this time for the Nintendo DS.

Sonic Classic Collection features Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. It will also introduce a save feature to Sonic 1 and 2, which is a first for those games, and a video recounting his history.

"The original Sonic the Hedgehog games were the start of a pop culture phenomenon that extended beyond just the video game world," said Sega of America vice president of marketing Sean Ratcliffe.

"The Sonic Classic Collection will introduce a whole new generation of gamers to this beloved Hedgehog and take them back to his humble beginnings."

The classic Sonic games were most recently compiled in the Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection, which was released earlier this year for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. In addition to the aforementioned games, it also included Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic Spinball. The first two Sonic games were also included in 2006's Sega Genesis Collection, and can be found on the Wii's Virtual Console service along with Xbox Live Arcade.

So this certainly isn't the first time that the classic games starring Sega's mascot have be re-released, but it is your first chance to have them all in one place on the Nintendo DS. It'll be out in Spring 2010.
I'm sold.

It would be nice if they put some of the Game Gear ones on there.

Watch them work as well as that Sonic1 port for the GBA.

...Something like that won't happen again, but the thought is funny.

Let's see...

Genesis, Saturn, Gamecube, PS2, PS3, XBox, 360, GBA, PSP, Wii, iPhone, PC, now DS.

All those systems have had a port of the Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog. Huh.

Unless we can play Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic 2 & Knuckles, and hopefully Blue Sphere(but we can digress on that), it's not really worth getting.
What's the matter, scared?

Why can't they just cram all of the early Sonic games onto one final disc, and NOT force you to unlock games, and other BS like that? I owned one Sonic Collection and it pissed me off.

And it's about time we got a damn save feature.

Probably the same issue that was had when they made Sonic Mega Collection. Considering they had to take out Debug in Sonic CD so it wouldn't cause huge problems in Gems, I imagine the emulation software needed for the DS wouldn't be as convenient.

They didn't actually take Debug Mode out(atleast definately not in the GC version), they just made it useless.

Peeling out was pretty fun. I didn't like it as much as 3, though.

You can't place any objects

That's taking it out for the most part.

Your time no longer matters, and you can still more anywhere. It's NOT taken out, you just can't place objects. That's not exactly useless to me. It just means you can't fully cheat. Really, there's a lot worse things you can complain about then not allowing you to fully cheat, especially when it comes to Sega's games.

^ No, I got that point, but you're making it sound like they just plain took it out.

Bleah... One of my problems with CD was no Tails or Knuckles. Why did they go back to just Sonic? Not a bad game, though.
