With the updated collection’s launch just over a month away, Sega has revealed the exclusive regional covers for the physical editions of Sonic Origins Plus.

The covers, designed by British artist Mark Hughes, known for his work on IDW Publishing’s Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series and its various spinoffs, pay tribute to the series’ 16-bit roots with art emblazoned with Sega Genesis and Mega Drive branding.

“It was a very exciting start to the year by being able to create these reverse covers,” said Hughes, who goes by @thesketchsector on Twitter. “I’m overwhelmingly grateful to the wonderful folks at Sonic Pillar and Sonic Team for the opportunity to have my art represent my favorite games of all time. I hope you all enjoy them!”

The covers were revealed on the official Sonic The Hedgehog Twitter account.

Sonic Origins was initially released last June. And while it was generally well received by critics, many Sonic fans were disappointed by the meager selection of just four games. This time around, Sega hopes to make things right with those players. Announced last month, Sonic Origins Plus is an expanded version of last year’s collection, including 12 Game Gear Sonic titles and the addition of Amy Rose as a playable character.

Those eager to get their fix of Sega’s Blue Blur won’t have to wait much longer. Sonic Origins Collection will release on June 23 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and Steam.

So, what do you think of the regional covers for Sonic Origins Plus? Will you be picking the game up when it spin-dashes onto consoles and PC next month? Let us know in the comments section.

The art looks very nice, good stuff. I'm glad Amy is finally playable, I hope she's available in all 4 of the main games, Tails and Knuckles should be too. In fact, I'm a bit disappointed by Metal Sonic not being playable as well, but it's still going to be pretty cool.
