NPR's A Martinez speaks to Nintendo game director Shigeru Miyamoto about the ways in which his games have engaged players for more than 30 years.

I think it's really cool how Miyamoto uses such simple experiences to design game concepts. Even into adulthood he comes up with ideas that way, I believe he said Pikmin was inspired by gardening, for example.
