I want to go to a four-year college, but I can't afford it. I'm worried I won't be able to find a job without a degree.
What do I do?

If there's no way to pay for it then you may need to settle for a job you like less, at least temporarily. Maybe become an entrepreneur, that's ideal anyway.

First you have to know what field you'd like to go into.

What solutions have you considered? Save us some guesses.

My dad always said most corporations don't care overly much what your degree is in, they mostly just want to know you have the gumption and elbow-grease to have earned a college degree. I mean, assuming the job you apply for doesn't require any excessive expertise, of course (a BA in English Lit probably won't get you that civic engineering job you've had your eye on), but most office jobs don't require much more than basic competence.

Whenever you go to an interview, always pay attention to the workplace. How it looks could give you red flags - like basically if it looks like crap. Or if they don't appear to take much care of it that could mean they don't have the money to really bother with straightening up the place.

Nobody's going to say it? Guess I will then. Community college may be a good stepping stone for you towards getting to that four year degree. Community college is much cheaper and with an associates you can start working and get your foot in the door for most fields. Work a little with that associates and most companies will actually pay you to get your bachelor's. If nothing else, you'd have a good job to start with afterwards and can save up for a four year degree.

So some real talk here, I went to uni, for a four year course, I ultimately dropped out of it due to my mental health growing more and more chaotic, and I've not worked since because certain aspects of my illness prevent me from "functioning" in some common situations. So, I can understand the **** of your position, but you gotta remember, you're still young, you still have a damn good amount of time to do college and get a professional job from it all. Even if that means starting to save money in the most dull and poorly paying jobs. You're still young, you don't have to have everything figured out yet. Just take what you can get right now, and build on it. It's far better to just BE productive than getting worked up over the specifics of your productivity.
