I cannot figure out how to actually play the game.

Where are you getting lost? Are the world map and the available locations appearing for you when you select it? Have you been in the first town but not figured out where to move next? Did you not find the "RPG" link on the main menu?

Okay, I figured out that you have to click on the town icon. But this is not very obvious and I don't see any instructions explaining how to start the game. Nothing tells you to click the icon. Or maybe I missed some instructions somewhere, but that means they're missable. I wasn't thinking that the world map would be interactive, I thought it was just a map and that the only reason there was only one place on it was because I hadn't started the game.

If I had this trouble, then theoretically, others might, too. It took me weeks to figure out how to start

Basically, you just click around until you figure out what to do.

Yeah, unfortunately the RPG didn't come with any instructions. Been meaning to make some, but life has been busy. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Did you get it from somewhere as is, program it from scratch, or use an RPG-building engine?

The RPG was made by a small company made up out of a few indie programmers. It no longer seems to exist. They didn't include instructions for players or the mods that opperate it. Most of it's functions have been discovered by people experimenting with it.

Basicly it's a simple rpg engine that Shane bought and installed on the boards. The areas, monsters, items, etc, are made by whoever the current rpg mods are at the time.
At first, pretty much all of the graphics and such just came from a folder that came included with the program, but it's also possible to upload custom graphics.
