Original Art, New Backgrounds
Crav asked me for help with a background for the game, and we had a chat and now I'm going to be doing some original art. It should be a much higher quality than the stuff you guys have been used to. I might show off the occasional tidbit here and there, so long as it doesn't spoil the game. To start with, here is the first background Crav commissioned:
Don't ask me where it goes, folks, I'm just the artist. I've done a few things here and there by request of S1x and Crav before, so I suppose it was only inevitable that I'd get a bit more involved. I'm hoping we can create a more cohesive, exciting experience for all the participating members.
Your comments and suggestions for this project are welcome and encouraged. :)

So, with this work you're doing now, is it just going to be original backgrounds? Or would it extend to, say, new sprites, character pics or other smaller-scale graphics? I can't do backgrounds (very well, at least), but if you wanted anything like what I suggested, I would be willing to help you (Crav and whoever all is doing this).

I was intending on focusing on original backgrounds, and doing a few bits of character and monster design here and there, but you're welcome to help with monster design. I can sympathize, it's very Dungeon-Crawler esque. Crav and I chatted and were thinking we might be able to make more of a Shadowgate-esque adventure area, to add some variety.
Sorry if that's revealing a bit of our plans, Crav, but I figure anything to encourage people to play is a plus. Just wait until we replace all of the enemy sprites with that stripper one from Duke Nukem 3D, our memberbase will swell into the thousands. *winkwinknudge* heh heh heh

The early section feels so grindy because of the almost no variety in monster encounters, the extremely slow experience gain, the high random difficulty, and having no tactical options. I don't have the patience to go beyond that area just yet.
Good to hear you're working on other styles of play, though.

^^You combine honey with something, I think. It should tell you if you look in inventory->components->combine components->honey varnish.
Haven't used much of the RPG in a while (the Silver Tunnel wasn't where I thought it would be and my slow internet hasn't made it tempting to go look for it), but what I've seen is definitely a big improvement on the old stuff.
The RPG is only really grindy if you try and balance your stats. You have to go for either all the MAG related stats or all the STR related stats to get through it quickly.

For that matter, all of the NPC's in Tireal have been finished. I've made progress on some more, but we'll have to wait until Crav gets back from his weekend trip before any of it will make it in the game.
