Can my computer run XP? (iPod related)

#1

Post by imported_Andrew » Thu Jun 23, 2005 11:23 pm

We want to upgrade our HP Pavillon 8655C computer that we got in 2000 from Windows 98 to Windows XP- mainly so I can use iTunes on it and use my iPod or whatever MP3 player I get at my own home instead of going to a friend's house.

Specs: 27.9 GB (21.6 free)
Processor: 533 MhZ (I know I know)

I know I meet the rquired specs, but we've asked around and people are saying it would slow down our computer greatly.

Or is there a program I can use to put music on a MP3 player without having to upgrade?

It's possible to run XP, but it will likely slow down your system. Biggest concern is how much RAM you've got. 128 megs as a bare minimum on a system that old. I run 256 on a 1.3 ghz athlon, and it's not what I would call speedy. 98 is gonna be the fastest OS on your system, and it's really a shame that the newer OS's have to eat up resources so terribly.

^^It depends on the MP3 player, because each uses thier own software.

Check to see if any of the non-apple hard drive players can run on windows 98 (Maybe Creative's?)
